Our town has called for a voluntary shut down. I have decided to comply because my wife is high risk. Of course not many people are buying jewelry right now. The local paper interviewed some businesses about this. One of the companies interviewed was our local YMCA. I noticed in their interview that they made no mention of planning to shut down. We are members but have not been since this thing started.

Left the apartment for the first time in 9-10 days yesterday to get some groceries and just stretch my legs. Can't say I was impressed with safety measures at the local grocery store: no wipes for carts/baskets, no hand sanitizer, and a symbolic spray bottle of something blue (not likely effective against viruses) and A ROLL OF PAPER TOWELS at the self-checkout. Saw zero surfaces being cleaned, zero PPE on employees while I was there.
Saw a handful of dog walkers and sporadic traffic on the 10-15 minute walk through one of the more densely populated neighborhoods in the city (though also one most affected by university closures). |

When the weather allows, I've been doing 3 mile walks. There is a fair amount of traffic. I walk past the local Chick-fil-a and it seems to do booming business. It's one of the drive thru only places, so it's business as usual for them. According to my neighbor, the local grocery store is business as usual and the shelves seem mostly stocked. |

I'm in po-dunk Tennessee at my parent's house. Mom has been in the hospital and re-hab so I've been here over a month now. The Walmart here has buggy wipes as you walk in and hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer and wipes in the meat section. And in the self check out areas there is someone that as soon as a person finishes checking out wipes down the whole area- where you lay your items before scanning, scanning area, where you bag your items, the display you touch to punch in produce numbers and the credit card keypad. I watched her, she was very thorough. They are constantly stocking the shelves. Yes, they are light on choice in pasta and canned goods, but fresh produce is fully stocked. Meat isn't fully stocked either, but there is still a good selection. And yes, there was TP available day before yesterday.
We need to protect the supply chain. Closing rest areas is not a good idea. The drivers can't go into restaurants any longer to go to the bathroom, should they poo by the side of the road? There just aren't enough truck stops out there. We need to change the rules and allow truck drivers to walk up to drive through windows to get food, obviously they can't drive their trucks through. We need to keep some hotels open, most trucks are not sleeper cabs, and most drivers are out over night. Sleeping in their seats just won't work. I honestly don't think most people realize everything at some point is on a truck. Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now. S |

I call my dad every other day. I call my sister two or three times a week. My wife speaks to help mom and kids every day.

It now appears that our local YMCA has closed their gym facilities.

Around here, the YMCA and other gyms were among the earliest closures. Now all but the most essential businesses in my area have been shut down. We don't have high numbers of reported cases of coronavirus so far and I guess the government is trying to keep it that way.

I still havent been in a reading mood much. Been sick with what is hopefully a chest cold all week. We have been working from home for 2 weeks, mainly. Our town is not in lockdown so I can still go out, but haven't been. I am not bored since I am such a homebody anyway, but in a bad mood today (mainly from cold and just moody probably)

I finished up Smoke Bitten, Patricia Briggs latest earlier in the week. Maybe it's time to go back and start re-reading that series. It sure would be nice if some of my pre-orders got released early as eBooks since they are likely already complete, but that's not likely. This would be a great time for some of those big series we are waiting for on TV, such as Amazon's LOTR series and the WOT series, to make an appearance. Lots of people looking for something to capture their interest. |
