Hard to see the bend at that angle. That hole however I would think is grounds for a replacement anyways as it looks like a manufacture qc mold defect.

Just a quick review of what i like and what i don't

Good:
  • Screen is responsive and sharp (a little bit greyish but good enough)
  • OS is good with some caveats. You can change the default ebook reader which is mandatory for me
  • Notetaking is amazing. Very good app and very responsive.
  • The stylus works very well and the feeling on the screen is not like paper but it feels nice (a little bit sliddy but not in a bad way)
  • Deleting notes with the "rubber" in the pen its pretty good in the notes app (not that good in the PDF app )
  • The pdf experience is ok if you are reading (note taking in pdf is not perfect tho)
  • The front light is very good and uniform.
  • It's Android 6 so you can install apps I already setup some automations to download my books into it !!
  • Since it has SDcard I plan to have the whole Wikipedia OFFLINE in it with kiwix!! Isn't it great?!

Not that good:
  • PDF notetaking is kind of shitty mainly because the palm rejection don't work very well and theres no way to disable the touch layer (unlike in the notetaking app)
  • Fixed lock wallpaper. no random slideshow.. Maybe doesn't sound very important but i love other ereaders capacity to act as a slideshow frame
  • you can't wake up the device with the home button.. which is anoying since you have to find the tiny button in the upper side
  • Ebook reading app lacks customization options, it is pretty basic compared with moonreader or alreader (my favorite) but it doesn't matter since you can change the default app for epubs and such.
  • 430 grams is a little bit on the heavy side but i just weighted a couple of medium books and notebooks and they are around 500G each so.. well... it weights like a book.
  • The likebook case is very neat and it wakes the mimas automagically when you open it but.. it weights 200G. I would love a much lighter version of the case. Maybe ill try to improvise one out of a Moleskine.. and some velcro.
  • A black model would make the screen better.. but in white looks better i guess.

As you can see most of the caveats are firmware or software related so I'm pretty sure some feedback to Boyue could do the magic.

Very happy so far. Now i'll try some apps to test the stylus outside the system ones and try to root it to automate some stuff with Tasker. It would be very usefull if someone could handle me the Onyx boox reader and pdf APKs in order to test if they play well with this beauty.

If you have any questions or something just ask.
So I just recieved mine as well - Have you tried connecting it to a PC? - Mine doesn't seem to react at all when I connect via USB. It does charge though. EDIT - It works with another UCB C cable I have - The cable that comes with it doesn't seem to go as far into the port. Very weird but not a dealbreaker

The light point is a minor disappointment but the way the display is bent not. Even looking at it frontally one sees it clearly. My girlfriend noticed it immediately, too.
The bend doesn't look too noticeable, at least in the photo. I also don't see a - "tiny dot in the casing above the display through which light shines through". Is that supposed to be visible in the picture you posted?

Sorry for the suboptimal photos. I have linked two more.

The hole is not big. However, this is something I still don’t like seeing on a new device.

The bend appears much more obvious in person. My girlfriend also noticed it before I pointed it out to her. In the bottom third of the display, especially in the middle, the screen is very flexible when touching it whereas at the top it is not flexible at all.

That blue line is what the bend creates? If so that is quite the bend. And yeah that hole is bezel defect for sure. I would exchange it if you like the rest of the device.

I drew the blue line connecting the two outermost points of the black bar.

What about reading a pdf A4 size? I guess this device is too small and a 13.3" reader is needed.

Ah, thank you. I didn't scroll down the page, so I only saw the first photo which doesn't show the dot of light at all.

Gosh, I don't know what I would do if that were mine. It looks pretty minor, but that can still be very upsetting and frustrating!

ETA: I think the Boox Note and Boox Note Plus have flexible screens ... perhaps you can ask over in those threads if it's common for the screen to flex that much.

Mimas and annotations

Got mine yesterday. So far so good, the device seems to suit my (academic) needs prety well. The default pdf app doen't have many options, but the ability to instantly note with stylus is great (and feels very natural). There is no reflow option (or at least I haven't found it yet). I don't mind since I work in humanities where most of the papers are formatted in one column.

Anyway I have one problem with the pdf software. I can export my handwritten notes, but I can't export the underlinines and annotations. I would like to store the papers on my laptop. Does anyone know if this option is coming in a future update? It's a pretty big omission from the developer.

So all things considered, the only significant advantage Mimas has over Boox Note is the frontlight and price tag?

In the Aliexpress webshop of Likebook, you can read this:

Quote:
Dear Buyer:
the likebook mimas finally arrived but with limited qty. if you are interesting it, please order it as soon as possible.
Apparently these first batchs are trial samples and many units have issues, but usually these units don't pass the quality control, however the user Acaread received a defective product with defects easily spotted in a QC, we have to wait for more feedbacks.

Text reflow is a big item for me, I.e. being able to read s two or more column pdf as if it were a one column pdf. Has anyone one tried Koreader or another pdf reader with good reflow capabilities and had any success?

Also has anyone tried Ivona voices or another text to speech engine with any success?

I think the micro SD slot is beneficial. Boox storage can't be extended...also note taking should be more snappy with the Mimas...

The backlight will be fixed in the new Boox Pro series introduced at CES. They even got the feature of having both yellow and white backlight turned on and mixing them in the preferred ratios e.g. 20% white, 80% yellow...

I don't know yet, whether I should buy the Mimas. The early discount of 20€ on ereader-store is nice...but I am also interested in the pricetag of the Boox pro..
Boox could have a better battery live with that Quad-core...
Here a link to an article about the pro series
