Thank you! I also picked up an HDX 8.9 at the sale price with the 5 payment plan. Looking forward to trying it out.

I never thought I'd buy a Fire, but I've got an HD 6 (with Fintie Smartshell) coming (Sunday for the case, Monday for the HD 6). My daughter bought an HD 8.9" (one of the original 8.9" Fires, but like new condition) and the seller threw in a slightly damaged, 1st Generation Kindle Fire -- which she gave to me. I found out two things using the Kindle Fire. 1) It's not that bad for reading when using Sepia and 2) It works really well with Amazon Prime for movies (and TV shows) and music.
So the slur against the Kindle is that it's merely a media consumption machine. The irony is ... I wasn't in the market for a tablet and wouldn't have bought one. But the 1st Generation Kindle Fire showed how useful a Kindle could be when paired with Amazon Prime. The reasons I didn't just stick with the Kindle Fire is because 1) The blotch on the screen -- kind of like a magnetic mark on a CRT monitor, and 2) It's a bit a big and 3) It's a little outdated. I wanted -- for example -- to install a newer web browser and Chrome, Firefox and Outlook would not work. Really, though, for a four year old device it's pretty useful on Amazon. I've watched a few TV shows and listened to some music -- which brings me to 4) I wanted Bluetooth for my Bluetooth headphones and (maybe in the future) for a Bluetooth Keyboard. Oh, and 5) The $15 off sale, and 6) The ability to spread the cost through five payments (though I'll probably pay the rest off in one lump sum, if everything works out as I hope). At any rate, I'll let you know what I think the HD 6 when I've tried it out a bit. I hope the Fintie case is good. I like the fact that the HD 6 popped in -- leaving the whole screen open and available. Now, if I can figure out how to use it to control my Chromecast. |

@rcentros If you think reading is fine on the 1st gen Fire, you will be amazed how the screen looks for reading on the HD6. I just love it!
I still use eink for when I leave the house, though. I actually prefer to grab my Kobo Aura, even though the screen contrast is not as good as my Glo, simply because it is so small and thin. Last edited by booklover6; 02-14-2015 at 07:57 AM. |

I'm having fun guessing when the HD 6 and case will come in. Originally it was Monday for the HD 6 and Sunday for the Fintie Smartshell. Then it changed to Monday for both. Now it's changed to Sunday (later today) for both, and now they're both in the same box. If it gets dropped back to Monday again, I won't lose any sleep over it. I live in Fort Worth ... these packages start in Fort Worth -- then go to Dallas, then come back to Fort Worth. |

I love my HD 6. I don't have prime though (although if they develop one of their new TV shows I will, I can't remember it's name but it's the U.S. occupied by Germany one) so use my Fire mainly for audiobooks and text to speech and the occasional reading. I actualy love the white text on black background. Hubby likes the games.

The HD 6 and Case arrived at about 9:30 A.M. -- about half an hour after getting home from early Mass. First impressions. The HD 6 feels and looks bigger than I expected. The screen really does show fingerprints. (I might have to find some kind of screen protector.) Until the HD 6 updated, the web browser wouldn't load pages even though I had successfully registered? (Odd.) Once the update finished everything was fine. Read a chapter out of my current book -- the screen is sharp. Played a movie snippet -- was surprised at the volume and clarity of the sound (and the quality of the video). Much louder than the 1st Generation Kindle Fire.
As for the Fintie case ... I like its look and feel -- and, when opening and closing the cover, it successfully turns the HD 6 on and off -- but I don't like the way it doesn't quite fold back on itself. So far not particularly comfortable for holding. But I probably just have some adjusting to do to get used to it. If I can't adjust to it, I may look into an Amazon OEM case -- if they fold back a little better. At any rate, overall I like it. |

Just to see if it would work, I installed GrooVe IP on the HD6. Actually doesn't work too bad for a WiFi phone. Except I felt kind of silly holding a 6" tablet to my ear. Gave it a pretty good test -- about a 25 minute call to my brother. This may work out alright. |

I use mine as my main reader now my Nexus 7 has updated to Lollipop it has done something to clarity of the screen that I can no longer read on it in the dark without my eyes going crazy. I use a Poetic Slimline case. It's a nice case for the price. My KF6 is wonderful to read on.

After buying several cases for my HD6 finally found the ideal one for me. It is light weight, offered in several colors. The price is reasonable with all the goodies a case should have, a hand strap, a MUST for me to read easily laying down, magnetic on/off cover and a stylus holder..
