Yes, you have two choices. Let Paypal make the conversion or your credit card. Some cards have no or very low conversion fees. If you have one of those, it may be best to use it.

My card charges me 2.7% which is high so I let Paypal do it. However, when I received my statement the rate Paypal used was poor.

When I make a purchase and paypal makes the conversion, the rate is shown, I don't have to wait for the statement. And yes, the rate is quite poor... although it's better than other card I have, so I use always the same card for foreign currency.

With the US dollar strengthening I was planning on purchasing another Kobo gift card in either AUD or CAD but Kobo's prices and recent download issues has me rethink it.

I have too much erratic tendencies when I purchase books as to invest money in a gift card, I'm afraid.
