I'm using the Media Creation Tool to create a USB right now in any case... I plugged the usb into my laptop, ran setup and After a few questions (including confirming removal of Windows Media Center) it says it's installing ... at about 25% right now... It never asked for an install Key. Last edited by kennyc; 07-30-2015 at 06:42 PM. |

If you bought it with Win7/8 pre-installed,sometimes the key is imbedded in the motherboard.

Well after doing the 'install' and beginning to reboot I had an error box pop up about something couldn't start..shoulda written it down, but didn't ... closed it and it went ahead with the reboot and now is 'Upgrading Windows' .....
Worst case I've totally hosed my backup laptop and will have to reinstall Win7... Last edited by kennyc; 07-30-2015 at 07:02 PM. |

Resizing the start menu only works in medium TILE increments and you don't see the outline of the resizing. Deleting all icons and resizing it horizontally bigger first and then shrinking it to the minimum leaves you with the original Win95/98 start menu: all Text. Oh, and it works best with the taskbar at the bottom. (I prefer it at the top which is why I couldn't get it to shrink.) |

It is installed (manual install using USB stick Never asked for a Key so not sure what happens if I have to reinstall from scratch) but it appears to have removed my Norton Security suite but so far everything is working and in place ...including my chrome and passwords which I'm posting from right now....More later

What the... I used the Media Creation tool to burn a DVD. I booted from the DVD and saw the new W10 logo(?) for a few seconds, then a upgrade screen (with repair in the lower left). BTW All the documentation, said have the Key ready. so I crawled under the desk, removed the earthquake straps and read the COA Tags |

Haven't used it enough to know. Likely I'll stick with chrome.
![]() I just restarted the laptop and it seems to have a touchpad problem now.... arrrgggg! Jerky almost unresponsive. Plugged a mouse in which works fine, looks like it may have been downloading/updating things thought, I rebooted again and it's installing updates... |

I have discovered that "uninstalling" some of the bloat (i.e. weather, news) via the start menu doesn't seem to work. Right clicking gives an uninstall option and seems to uninstall, but stuff comes back. Uninstalling via the old style option via settings seems to have made it stick. Not excited by the white top bar. |
