Today's freebie from YourClassical comes from a Naxos compilation album, Thanksgiving: Songs of Praise.
The free piece from the album is a Felix Mendelssohn composition - Symphony No. 5: IV. Choral ein "feste Burg ist unser Gott". I referred, earlier, to the album being a Naxos compilation album. It seems that it must be, because Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday. Yet, the free piece and the rest of the album are compositions by non-Americans and it is performed by an Irish orchestra. The pieces on the album must have been selected and compiled by Naxos in honor of the holiday, and when composed had nothing to do with Thanksgiving. The piece is performed by the Ireland National Symphony Orchestra. As performed, the piece runs 8 minutes, 44 seconds in length. Credit for conducting the pieces that make up the album goes to Reinhard Seifried. If you're interested in knowing more about the entire album, there is a dedicated Naxos webpage from which you can learn more. There does not appear to be much in the way of reviews on that webpage or any other that I could find. You can either (or both) stream the MP3 piece or download it, by navigating to the dedicated YourClassical daily download webpage for the piece. Both the stream bar and the "Direct MP3 download link" are plain to see. |

Naxos has an album in their "American Classics" series called The 18th Century American Overture - Hewitt - Carr - Reinagle. Today, we are privileged to stream or download free, if we so desire, Alexander Reinagle's Occasional Overture from that album. This comes courtesy of YourClassical and perhaps other organizations.
Sometimes it is difficult to decipher information given about the albums and free pieces, but it appears that the whole album is performed by Sinfonia Finlandia Jyvaskyla, with Patrick Gallois doing the conducting. Naxos has a webpage that is chock-full of additional information about the entire album, located here. Among the many helpful things that you can find on that webpage is a link to reviews of the album. To either stream or download the free 7 minute, 40 second MP3 piece, you need to go to this webpage. You'll see the streaming apparatus and then just a short distance below it a "Direct MP3 download link." Clicking on that will cause the piece to automatically download to your computer. Being the unsophisticated bumpkin that I am, I had never heard Alexander Reinagle, that I remember. His Occasional Overture is pleasant (it makes me wonder why he didn't play it more than occasionally. ha). Hope you enjoy it, and happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the U.S. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 11-24-2016 at 02:06 AM. |

"We want to thank you for using Spotify in 2016 — with 3 months of Premium for just $9.99." https://www.spotify.com/us/comeback/ Spoiler:
So, different links, same offer. And just as my free Google Play and Sirius XM is expiring... what to do, what to do? I know, ignore them and wait for a better deal (or just listen to Amazon Prime or maybe the days and days of music on my server ....) |

I've been doing free offers lately (Spotify, Pandora, Groove Music, YT Music, Music Unlim) and have been spoiled by their huge catalogs compared to Prime Music. I just finished a free month of Music Unlimited and planned on getting their family plan, but changed my mind after they wanted all family members to share the billing credit card for Amazon purchases. The Jeff has lost his mind if he thinks this monkey will ever do that. So Spotify Family will now get my business, but first I think I'll give this promo a try and see if the family likes it before I take the final plunge. |

This is over my pay grade, but it looks like they allow artists to upload their stuff. But, they do have the popular artists/popular hits, too. So, it has a little bit different M.O. from the usual service. It might not be the kind of thing that any MobileReader would be interested in, but who knows? They do have a trial subscription promo, of course. |

20% iTunes Gift Cards at Dollar General Stores. Minor Exclusions Apply.
Itunes sells ebooks, too (I think--I don't think that I ever bought one from them), and maybe some other things. But the first thing that comes to mind when I think of iTunes is downloadable music.
Well, you can get 20% off of any 2 iTunes gift cards at Dollar General. I am sure that there is more fine print than this, but all that I see with the advertisement is that it "excludes variable $15-$500 card" (what does that mean? A card that has its value put on the card at checkout? That's all that I can think of). I have no idea what the smallest denomination or largest denomination of iTune gift cards are that you can purchase at Dollar General store. I don't think that Dollar General have a brick-and-mortar store presence nationally yet, but I think that they pretty well saturate most of the area east of the Mississippi River. They do have a fledgling online business, but iTunes gift cards are apparently not one of the things that either they sell online or that these cards' discount apply to online purchases, according to the advertisement that I'm viewing. If you have a long list of songs that you've been wanting to purchase from iTunes, but would like some kind of discount before going ahead and purchasing, this might be a good opportunity to do that. |

First 4 Months FREE on Google Play Music's Premium Plan. Just $9.99/Month Afterwards.
I saw Conan46's post about Google Play movies, but I haven't seen anything about this Google Play music deal, including on the O.P.
It's a better deal than I've seen in quite a while. The deal is on their "Unlimited" (similar to others' premium plans, I think). The free term is a whopping 4 months! After the 4 months is over, the plan is just $9.99/month. One of the questions peeps seem to have when they're checking into music subscription services is, "how big is the catalog?" Well, Google Play claims that you can "access 35 million songs." Of those 35 million, it seems, you can "add up to 50,000 songs from your computer and stream them anywhere for free." Google Play does have, like all or most of its competitors, a free plan, also. Find out probably everything that you need to know at this Google Play website. UPDATE: Okay, Google Play is not being a nice person to play with. If you go to the link that I gave above, you will get a completely different webpage than I got initially, the one upon which I based my post above. And I typed the URL exactly as that of the website that opened for me! So, here are a couple of things to try: 1) scroll down to the very bottom of that webpage. There may be a button inviting you to subscribe; if so, click on it. That worked the first time that I tried it, but not the second time. 2) If that fails, look for a menu icon in the extreme lefthand corner. Click on it. I got an option to subscribe, and it took me to a webpage identical to the very first one that I got. The upshot is, you'll get all of the information that I got, and the opportunity to get the special trial period terms. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 11-24-2016 at 07:56 PM. |
