I'm trying to download something from https://archive.transformativeworks.org but the specific link I'm using (it's rated mature - not for NSFW reasons - but I couldn't remember the policy regarding that so have not linked it here) is not working. In Calibre, when I try to add it, it's just saying "No valid story URLs entered"

I tried with this random one and it still didn't work, even after adding

use_archive_transformativeworks_org:true

and turning off always logged in, in case that was the issue.

If not, I'll just stick to at least adding the metadata to Calibre if I can't have it in the epub

You might try turning the URL into Archiveofourown.org/ID string.
I just experimented - anything with the URL containing https://archive.transformativeworks.org fails with 'no valid story URL.
I try something from calibre where the link reads archiveofourown.org and things behave.

FFF doesn't accept archive.transformativeworks.org for story URLs. You may use any of:
'archiveofourown.org',
'archiveofourown.com',
'archiveofourown.net',
'archiveofourown.gay',
'download.archiveofourown.org',
'download.archiveofourown.com',
'download.archiveofourown.net',
'ao3.org',

In all cases, FFF records the 'canonical' story URL with archiveofourown.org.

archive.transformativeworks.org is, to my knowledge, a mirror site instead of an alias. While struggling with AO3's issues, I implemented use_archive_transformativeworks_org to internally rewrite archiveofourown.org to archive.transformativeworks.org because it was having fewer problems.

Unfortunately, archive.transformativeworks.org is misconfigured and doesn't allow login, even in browser.

We then learned archiveofourown.gay was also a mirror, but does allow login, so I implemented use_archiveofourown_gay

Short answer: Give FFF archiveofourown.org story URLs, set use_archiveofourown_gay:true if you're having problems.

Re:Collections: Nothing you do in personal.ini will make FFF record AO3 collection URLs. It would require code change.

Actually, no, we don't need to number them.

I was thinking too hard about Calibre columns and not enough about mijkala's actual request: to get collection URLs in FFF's titlepage. That's a lot easier.

With this update, add collectionsHTML to titlepage_entries. Note collections is now kept in original order to line up with collectionsUrl.

That's the reason I asked if someone managed to download locked AO3 fics through FFF in the last few days, and if yes, if they could share their own setting to see if I could replicate that and solve the issue

Daughter has reported this problem, too. What's weird is we're running the same Win 11, same Calibre version, same FFF, and everything is working for me. And going through the same network. But she can't download stories locked to only logged in users, or update anthologies whether or not they require log in. She runs Steam as well as Windows - could that be messing with things somehow? She sent me debug logs which I will try to attach. (last time I thought I attached something here, it didn't actually happen.)

Both of those end in "403 Client Error: Forbidden for url: https://archiveofourown.gay/users/login"

That's not a system or network error, that's the site choosing to forbid access. We don't know why certain users and/or IPs/networks ended up blocked, but doing lots of downloads is a factor. It's usually temporary, clearing after 'some time', which could be hours or days.

For the series update, it may help to comment out username--the AO3 adapter automatically attempts to login for series if username is saved.

Other than that, I don't know of anything more that you or FFF can do about that.

As always with AO3, you can still download epubs from the site.
