But there is a very good reason to want something heavier. I would love it if Kobo used a much heftier battery. If that means adding weight, so be it.

With a 150-160g ereader using a cover wouldn't be a problem for me, but with a 200-250g device it is.
250g is 8.8oz. That's less then a pound.

For those here who have trouble holding a Reader, do you think exercising may strengthen your arm/hand/wrist so you could hold a Reader with no problem in one hand?

Why should we? We'll just demand lighter devices with smaller batteries from the manufacturers.

Because if you did exercise and it helped, you'd feel better holding more things.

I can hold things well enough for most tasks. Just not for hours, and no, I'm not going to exercise holding heavy things for several hours.

Medical professionals would likely think so. Exercise as well as improving overall strength and fitness is suggested to help prevent injury, reduce the likelihood of ailments like Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, RSI, arthritis etc. Physiotherapy is prescribed to those with injuries and ailments. Many degenerative conditions employ exercise to help treat symptoms.

Disclaimer: Speak to a medical professional familiar with your medical history before partaking in exercise.

Most of those exercises, while useful in other ways, in no way increase strength or endurance in your hands and wrists. I've done some of them; my hands did not get any stronger from them.

It's not that I have extraordinarily weak hands. I don't; I regularly carry heavy shopping bags home and up the stairs (I have no car and live in an old apartment house without a lift). I just naturally have very, very slim wrists (like a child's) and usual exercising doesn't make them any thicker. I'm not going to do any intensive strength training, I'm far too lazy for this.

I think raising a glass to ones mouth is also adequate if such a thing is appealing? As you improve you can opt for glasses with a larger capacity!

Depends on what the glass contains.

I can just imagine now raising a barrel to my mouth in 10 years...

Saying this, even I think that maybe I've been exposed to too much twitter....

But this has got to the most toxic ableist comment I have ever seen.... Have trouble holding a super light device?,, just exercise more. No idea why someone would not have thought of that, and clearly it's all their fault for not doing the most basic thing.... sheesh.

Both of my PaperWhites are in covers which have stand features. The PW2 stands in landscape and the case used for the PW3 stands in portrait.

The cover on the PW3 is one of the heavier type into which you tuck the ereader so that the bezel is covered, necessary for this reader which I bought secondhand - it has scratches on the bezel, though the screen itself is fine.

I rarely hold either of these readers, just leave them propped up while reading.

If I want to prop up my Kobo Libra 2 I just use a phone stand. But this reader is very comfortable to hold (I keep it in a nice pretty case to avoid scratches and add to the decorative value.)

Using a cover which can stand should aid those who can't hold an ereader.

This thread is a scream.
