http://www.prolific.com.tw/UserFiles...HXD_v1_4_4.pdf The package pin-out is shown on page: 11 (Fig. 4-1) Trace any connections to pin 4 (Vdd_325) on the package. Ensure that pin 4 is not connected anywhere else on board. If it is, disconnect it. Now provide 1.8 volts (Positive (+) to pin 4) - Negative (-) to common ground. This sets the Tx and Rx signal levels to 1v8 volts rather than 3v3 or 5v0. (The chip will do the proper level shifting - see page:13 - Table 5-1 and page: 20 - Table 9-2e). Either use an external source of the 1v8 (such as a watch battery or hearing aid battery or any Li/Fe battery you can find)... OR Find a source of 1v8 on the Kindle motherboard, one location on the PW2 is shown in this post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...25&postcount=3 (Use the link in the picture's caption to get full sized picture - that is tp1706 on the motherboard.) Then connect only the Tx, Rx, and Gnd pins of the adapter to the Kindle as you listed before. - - - - - For your own safety, check for any regulations against private ownership of strong cryptographic capable hardware and software in your country. Some of the countries in your part of the world have a tendency to shoot private citizens that own such devices. Yes, the Kindles are such devices, and both Amazon update packages and our update packages use it. I suppose you could play dumb and claim to have found it where a foreigner dropped it. Although the wires to the serial port (which allows you general use access) might be a bit hard to explain. Last edited by knc1; 07-24-2015 at 04:36 AM. |

Almost any Linux distribution will work.
The only thing 'different' about your backtrack environment are some kernel patches (to wireless drivers) and the set of special applications included as 'standard'. - - - - You can also use a "Linux LiveCD" - - Our Kubrick is one such and it has a full set of working tools. Just 'f3' (or 'f4') to escape from the Wizard to the command line. |

i connected 4 wires to kindle correctly and when i boot it i dont see anything in minicom and i can't stop autoboot.
as you said i disconnected pin 4 from board and gave it 1v8 from kindle (tp1706 point) Last edited by x23are; 08-03-2015 at 10:14 AM. |

Tx -> Rx Rx -> Tx Gnd -> Gnd tp1706 -> pin 4 Recheck your computer / adapter setup: Jumper Tx -> Rx Can you receive what you are sending? If not, check if your adapter requires DTR, CTS and if it does, jumper them active (the adapter docs should show you how). Recheck your terminal setup: 115200, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, no software flow control, no hardware flow control, no DTR, no CTS, no RI, no local echo. You **must** be able to receive what you send when you have the adapter's Tx jumpered to Rx !!! Keep looking for things I didn't think of above until you do. yes. jumper tx to rx on chip and tested it by usb to ttl test program and when i gave 3v3 to pin 4 everything were OK and both tx and rx leds flashed(all level passed) but when i gave 1v8 this is result :
http://s6.picofile.com/file/8202572842/Capture.PNG i set all setting for serial setup as you said. no . my adapter don't require DTR & CTS. Last edited by x23are; 08-03-2015 at 05:12 PM. |

They are what are ruining the 1v8 interface levels. You can read a description of that in the write-up of Geekmaster's level shifter. |

i disconnected leds but still nothing.
my adapter schematic is so similar this but mine have 3 led and 4 capacitor and 6 resistor.( one 1k5 and two 22 ohm in front of usb and three 1k5 beside LEDs) http://s6.picofile.com/file/82041975...e1a67b16f9.jpg |

Your post before last -
The one showing you using a test program while the serial lines where loop'd back - The picture of it failing . . . . Use the terminal emulator for your testing, the **same** terminal emulator that you will be using to type to the Kindle with. The objective is to see if everything from the Tx - Rx loopback is working. We are not concerned if some test program works or not. This set-up of a low voltage serial port is something that works for everyone else in the world, except you. That tells me where the problem lies, your doing something that you have not explained which makes it fail. Re-check your work, again and again until it works in loop-back mode. Then it will work with the Kindle, just by removing the Tx <-> Rx loopback - - **IF** the serial port on the Kindle is good. PS: Is this the kindle that had its serial port connected directly to the PC's high voltage com port? If it is, then the chances that the Kindle's serial port is bad is very real. That serial port (and any of the 3v3 CMOS parts) can be ruined just by static electricity on the body when you touch a connection. You have never mentioned if you are following all recommended anti-static conditions. Since you live in an area which is hot and dry, that is also a very real concern. Other than those things, I have no ideas at all, other than the problem is at your end of this conversation. Last edited by knc1; 08-04-2015 at 08:03 AM. |

Everything i touch turns to shit!! but i exactly listen to you and work as you say. i check and check. again and again. but no luck. i put kindle aside and test adapter. jumper tx -> rx i gave 1v8 to pin 4 and tested it by a terminal : there wasn't any receive and transmit. then i back it to it's default mode (connect pin 4 to board = 3v3) and jumper tx and rx and i tested and saw receive and transmit were successful. then i decided to make a level shifter. i made a level shifter whit one 1n4148 and two 3k3 resistors and one simple Red LED as geekmaster said in his thread. i checked rx and tx's voltage whit a voltmeter and i got 1.67. then i connected rx and tx to each other and tested it by terminal but no receive and transmit. As you said this works for every one in the world but for me it is a problem ![]() |

Just use the 3v3 setting without any level shifter.

No more ideas.
I have done all I can think to do without having the device in front of me. It is just too many time zones away for me to see over your shoulder. |

help needed to get root password
Hi, everyone.
I successfully jailbreak my Kindle Paperwhite 2 before, and somehow I turned on wifi, now my Kindle is on OFW 5.6.2.1. I tried both Python script and https://www.sven.de/kindle/ this website, but none of the giving the right password for root. One thing I noticed that strange was my Kindle S/N start with "90D4" not same as what I saw in other topics. Thank you! Last edited by zhangsiyan12134; 08-11-2015 at 10:51 PM. |
