It's helping to keep the eBook market fragmented. What we need to do is get Amazon off of Mobipocket and then we need to get rid of DRM. Then it will just be a case of which device you like better as they'd all be format compatible with ePub. Please, let's move forward, not backwards. |

I love having a physical keyboard - I use it mostly for the notes application, and when using the web browser. Precision aside, I can also type much faster with my thumbs on the physical keyboard than I could with an on-screen keyboard. Finally, for me there is no real advantage to a touch screen. The main point would be to get rid of the physical keyboard, and reduce the size of the device. It is already the right size and shape in my mind, though - I like the feel of it in my hand. I can't imagine shrinking it more being a positive thing, personally. All that being said, I am pretty sure I know which way the wind is blowing, and I imagine that the K3 will be the last one in the line to feature a physical keyboard. I hope mine lasts. |

![]() My main objection is of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" variety. Touch just offers me nothing I need while adding bloat to the kernel and the OS (not to mention another potential point of failure). Plus I love and regularly use the built-in keyboard for taking notes while proofing text. There is no need to call up an onscreen "touch" keyboard that will obscure a large portion of the text on the screen... you just start typing on the physical keyboard, then keep on reading. And certainly not for lack of trying, touch screen navigation has just never come naturally or easily for me, so I prefer my devices to NOT have it (or at the very least offer me a hard-key alternative to every single "touch" function). There. There's three reasons... without even mentioning fingerprints. ![]() |

Have you tried a Kindle with a keypad? Have you tried a Kindle without ePub? If you have what did you dislike? Seriously, everyone has different likes and dislikes. What is important to one is not to the other. What bothers one person doesn't bother someone else. Even if your questions are answered you will discard them because they do not fit into your views of how things should work. BOb |

Second, I don't want fingerprints on my screen. They appear no matter what Amazon or Apple does, regardless of any "fingerprint-resistant" coating. Even if you only have to hover your finger. Third, I like physical buttons. I hate typing on a touchscreen keyboard and really don't want to have to use the screen to page. Especially if they use gestures, which is likely. Finally, it's a gimmick, and likely one that will increase the cost of the device. That's all I can think of at the moment. |
