It cracked me up that the stations were showing closures of schools, when all the DOE public schools were on furlough anyway!

They did keep one road closed for a good part of the day as they tried to clean up debris and such.
Yeah, Govercrombie reported $300M damage yesterday, which he later revised downwards to "tens of millions".

I can't stop thinking about this. I just left Japan six months ago and I have a lot of friends there. At least they aren't in the tsunami area.

At least our friend has found her father again - He, as is usual with some 'older folk' was wondering what all the fuss was about !!!
He apparently made his way south from Sendai to Tokyo ....

We are mightily relieved .... He's a wonderful man.

Some positives from The Toronto Star - Incredible Survivor Stories from Japan:

Quote:
A grandmother, two dogs, a four-month-old baby – every day, there are survivors surfacing in Japan as the country continues to assess the damage of a massive earthquake and tsunami.

Names are put to the faces of the missing as people come forward in the media with amazing tales of rescue and endurance.
The story is nice and has photos of the little baby, who has now been reunited with her parents, and videos of the dogs.

Here is a video of two dogs that survived. One of the dogs is really hurt and the other dog stays by its side. It is really touching. Both have since been rescued and the injured one is expected to survive.

Thank you - I watched that with a tear or two in my eye - even when it looked as though the friend was sitting on the others head ....

I sent that to my daughter and grand-daughter overseas, and got an immediate reply on the empathy that dogs are able to show.

I sincerely hope that after going through that harrowing experience that the two dogs are not eventually separated.

Cheers
