What? Like not being able to read newsprint unless it is exactly 2 feet away or not being able to recognize a friend on the other side of the street coz they are just a blur?

For me, it's not about the font size. It's the sharpness and clarity of each character that make it difficult to read. On my Nook, I can actually use the small font if I'm wearing my glasses. When I bump it up to Large, it makes reading slightly easier, but there's still a vague blur about each word.

I have had bifocal glasses for many years, but I've never been able to read with them. So I always take them off when reading either paper, computer, or Kindle. In fact, I never wear my eyeglasses at all anymore unless I'm watching television or driving. It really irritates me to have them on my face!

The only time I don't use reading glasses is when I have my Kindle in full sunlight. Even when I can 'make out' text without them (e.g. by making text size larger), I feel it is better to use glasses so it is as sharp as possible. I've been doing a lot of reading on my iPod lately and it would be nearly impossible to do that without glasses. I can appreciate that large text is a necessity for many people but at least for now, that is not the case for me. I wish Kindle had a smaller text size or two...

I wear contact lenses most of the time, just because they are in already. I still try and adjust the font slightly to make things a little more comfortable though.

Me too. I've worn glasses everyday for the last 30 years, and my eyes have only gotten worse. I think if it wasn't for my expensive lightweight plastic lenses, I'd likely need to head supports just to look out in front of myself.

well well well well!!

I wear glasses AND I hate them. Can't play sports without dropping them at least twice. Can't read book while lying (yes, I can, but it's uncomfortable). Many CAN'Ts.

Sometimes

I just got my Kobo reader this week. Why??? It is much easier on the eyes to read. Yes I wear reading glasses but with the Kobo set at medium font size I can get by just fine glasses free

I'm near-sighted, so I don't need the to read up to 13" from my face. If I'm reading in bed I do not. Any other time I keep them on (or have my contacts in) The Kindle 3 screen looks great without them and is easy for late-night reads.

I tell people that one of the coolest things about e-book readers is that they let me deny the fact that I now need reading glasses

I am terribly near-sighted; have been since I was a child..... I read without my glasses, with my ereader within a few inches of my eyes.

Sad to say, I need my cheaters more and more. I can get away without them in bright light, but reading in bed at night I need them. I don't like to enlarge the font too much to keep the page turns to a minimum.

If I'm tired I definitely need them. How badly I needs them is an indicator of how long I'll be able to read before nodding off.

Yes I do.

I do have myopia and astigmatism. Even without glasses and increasing the font, I see blur. :-(

Wish I can work without LCD screens or regular monitors, but not possible. One of the reasons I do have an eink device as dedicated ereader. I do have to take breaks every 60 min or so as per my doctor's recommendations.
