I wear contacts all the time, but glasses when reading in bed at night.
So no reading glasses for me ereader in the purest sense as I simply cannot see past my nose without glasses correcting my terrible short sightedness. Last edited by sabredog; 01-16-2011 at 07:29 PM. |

I wear glasses.
I am very nearsighted with astigmatism. My eyes don't work well together either.. past several years started relying more on better eye. ..and then the middle age thing.. sigh. egads - I'd love to have electronic eyes! anyway.. I voted no glasses with my ereader. |

I don't wear glasses when using my ereader. With paper books, I usually had to put my glasses on after a few pages to avoid eye strain. The default font size on the Kindle seems to be a little larger than the typeface in most of my paperbacks, so I haven't had to put my glasses on yet when using it.

Depending on the situation, I either use reading glasses or increase font. Mostly prefer glasses, as it slows down the page turns, but if I find time to read at work (restaurant kitchen) I make due with increasing the font size.

I can't even read the largest font on my 650 without my glasses.
A couple of years ago I asked my optometrist what cheap glasses I could use from the chemist in an emergency. She just laughed and said I was past all those. If I'm at home settling in for a long read I have to wear my reading glasses and not the multis. I can't read for long with multis. |

If I'm reading on my Sony, I normally, but not always, wear my glasses.
If I'm reading on my Droid, I normally, but not always, take them off. If I'm reading on paper, I leave them on. I didn't vote in the poll. |

I'd find it extremely difficult without... short sighted in one eye, long in the other and astigmatism for both... suppose I could enlarge the text to a couple of characters a line but then I'd probably get carpal tunnel syndrome turning pages...

If I was to wear my glasses, I would be looking at a slightly blurry screen no matter the font size. So I'm best with them off. Close up, I can see pretty well. In fact, I've started decreasing the font size. I'm using 95% smaller from the default base font size on my 650. That gives me (I think) 34 lines per page max. That's not bad at all. But the default font size I think is 1em (maybe 12pt).

Nope! I've finally reaped a benefit of all those years of being near-sighted. With my glasses on I can't see a dang thing up close, but once I take them off I can see close items easily. I tried progressive lenses but never really could adapt.
So I wear my glasses for driving and TV watching and take them off for reading and using the computer. I considered Lasik at one point and am so glad I decided against it. I would hate to need glasses to read and if I had corrected my near-sightedness I would have received the middle-age presbyopia in exchange. -Marcy |

I'm sitting right on the edge of needing to use glasses for reading all the time - now I can read a novel (or a comparable font size on my reader) without glasses early in the day, but often in the evening when my eyes are tired I need glasses for that size print. Since I do most of my reading in bed at night, I would rather not mess with the glasses, so I usually just bump the font up one size whenever necessary.

I have perfect vision but one of my favorite things about an e-reader is custom font size. Not only is it less strain on the eye-balls, I also get to turn pages more often which makes me feel acomplished.

I'm good with anything farther away than arm's length, but I've got to have glasses to read. It's only been the case for two years now and I'm still a bit annoyed by it.

I'll do you one better. I wear contacts all the time, even in bed. 2-week extended wear, throw them away when done. Thus to be 100% correct I technically wear glasses when reading, though the extended wear lenses are the next best thing to Lasik at least for me (and without the risk of eye damage from surgery).

A third question was missing from the poll: Sometimes. I don't normally wear them, but if the light is bad I do.
