Yeah, I'm sure. I used the archive I sideloaded my HD with and only thought 'Eek! Perhaps that was not the right firmware for the H2O, now was it!? ' when it was already installing...

Seems to have worked OK, libnickel patches and all.

Items like libnickel are constant across the different builds. The differences are normally which extra items like fonts are included, and possibly different kernels (and sometimes different drivers for different support chips).

The problem with installing the wrong package is the uimage (the kernel) and uboot files. In the past, the installation scripts didn't differentiate between the devices. Hence using the wrong package could result in the wrong version of these files being installed and a bricked ereader. The current firmware handles this better and as I don't expect an of the packages would include these files for the H20, using them is very safe. The only issue would be if the newer firmware had function in it that needed the updated kernel. Kobo doesn't do that very often, so this is probably safe as well.

OK, that's good to know <wipes sweat from forehead> . Copying the SQLite DB over from my HD seems to have worked as well. I like the H2O a lot so far; it's like my much-loved HD, but even better.

Yes, it is safe. In future, you should use the Mark 5 package. I was wrong above as the Mark 5 3.8.0 package has a kernel and uboot for the Aura H20. They are the same as in the 3.7.0 package, so there is no difference there. Comparing the rest of the package, the only differences is that the mark 4 package has a directory full of slideshow images for the Glo, Mini and Touch.

Would it be useful in any way to do a reflash with Mark 5, or doesn't it matter?

Edit: don't bother, I get it, I think. The kernel & uboot in the Mark 5 package are identical to the 3.7 ones (which my H2O already had) and the rest of the meaningful stuff is the same in the Mark 4 & -5 packages, so there is effectively no difference this time round. Next time, use Mark 5 as that is the official H2O package.

That about the gist of it?

NEW H2O.... Firmware

So just received my H2O and am happy with it so far. Fast setup no issues. Just curious though, is there a native over the air update for it? Or was it pulled/not released. Because I did do the setup and nothing was pulled to update the 3.7.0 stock f/w..

Any insight?

regards

3.7.0 IS the official release for the H2O.

I've updated the first post with a warning that 3.8.0 is not an official Aura H2O release.

Noticing that Calibre 2.6.0 has "Kobo driver: Update to support soon to be released firmware update from Kobo" in the What's New. No hint as to when the release is going to be but time to start wondering if my favourite new feature is going to be included, favourite bug will *finally* be fixed, etc.

Didn't you see the list of what is in the next firmware I posted last week? It had lots of nice changes. Including one that I think is in your "favourite" bug list. Of, course it has changed a little since then.

Seriously, 3.11.0 (catching up to the desktop version) has something for everyone. Some good bug fixes, at least one change that has been requested a lot and something that people will either love or hate.

Sorry, I forgot that the list was somehow redacted when I posted it But, I have the list here in front of me. It looks very nice. And even longer than the posted version. Hopefully, I'll be able to post it properly soon.
