I don't think you can dump salt water on a fresh water swamp/marsh. I'm not sure what is burning in the swamp, but in NC, the peat in the ground is on fire - can't really smother it with anything. You may have a similar problem - trying to put out a fire without damaging the surrounding ecosystem - which is protected.

A bit cooler today (high of 90 F) with scattered showers. We just had a mini sun shower here at lunch.

I wondered if anybody else would remember it. Web says the song reached 35 on the Billboard charts. I noticed it at the time (i.e. I heard it in the 70's) because we had read the play in high school (English class? drama team? I dunno) which is why I persisted to find the source - despite finding two similar movies that were more recent. I *knew* there was an earlier play!

We're finally getting a bit of break from the heat. Temperatures are in the mid 80s, and a gentle breeze is blowing, alerting us to the fact the the damned Dismal Swamp is still very much on fire.

Looks like we're going to be getting a little bit of the falling wet, today. And, of course, it's only because my lady-wife is having her baby shower today, and it's supposed to be by the pool. So...looks like I'll be the "crazy" one and be swimming in the rain, even though the temperatures are still supposed to be in the 100's.

Storms off & on most of today. Temps stayed in the 80's F.

Of course, the humidity levels are off the scale now.

Took a long, steamy walk after the sun went down.

Oh man..this storm is intense.

I've counted about twenty lightning strikes within an uber close proximity to my house. I was out on the patio before and the lightning split into three separate bolts right before it struck the ground nearby.

I watched transfixed as the bolts hit the ground, for a minute it was like everything paused midstrike...and then the thunder came.

And even right now while typing this, I just watched a nasty bolt strike somewhere nearby. The cats were terrified. I've never seen them jump from something so loud.

Major bad thunderstorm went through last night at 10:30 pm. Lots of lightning & rain.

Cool this morning (63 F) & damp. Supposed to be in the high 80's F this week.
