Yeah - no exertion/exercise outdoors - esp. for old codgers!

The stink was awful here from the NC coastal peat fires. The days we were under alert, I was only outside just from car to workplace, car to home - but I coughed for over a week afterwards. It was some toxic smoke - really irritated my throat. If you have to be outside, consider wearing a filter mask rated for smoke particles.

The smoke has cleared for now. A few hours ago it looked like light fog outside our house, but smelled like clothing after a week of sitting around the campfire.

My sinuses are returning to normal.

I'm sitting here boiling, currently at 40 straight days over 100. Yesterday set a new record high of 107.

The only good thing is my job currently has me working graveyard shifts 10pm-6am. Of course it balances out by being forced to spend my firs 45 minutes - hour out in a metal storage container that's been baking outside all day.

I remember having my migraines set off by it - our smoke smelled like an outdoor trash fire burning rancid rubbish. Got in the back of your throat.
Do consider wearing filter masks rated for smoke particles if you have to go outside. This stuff is vile!

I believe, unfortunately, that it will be heading toward your direction later today if I heard the forecast right. At the moment it's not too bad outside, but my garage smells like a fire sale with the fire still in progress. I've opened the door and the garage window and turned on a fan to get some of the smell out. Hopefully I'll be able to open the windows in the house later and do the same. As this fire may last a month, I'll take your advice and go online later and see about copping some filter masks rated for smoke particles.

My wife just asked why they don't use planes to dump water on the fire. Although Lake Drummond is probably off-limits as a source because of it's need as potable water, I understand we have an ocean full of salt water somewhere in the vicinity.
