Bargain @ $0.99 for today only (October 10th) from Subterranean Press as part of Kindle Daily Deals at Amazon CA & US:

The Furthest Station by Ben Aaronovitch (ISFDB, Wikipedia), a recently-released novella in his popular Rivers of London series of urban fantasy police procedurals. It's DRM-free and apparently not discounted in the other stores, but you can ask for a price-match @ Kobo.

There have been ghosts on the London Underground, sad, harmless spectres whose presence does little more than give a frisson to travelling and boost tourism. But now there’s a rash of sightings on the Metropolitan Line and these ghosts are frightening, aggressive and seem to be looking for something.

Enter PC Peter Grant, junior member of the Metropolitan Police’s Special Assessment unit a.k.a. The Folly a.k.a. the only police officers whose official duties include ghost hunting. Together with Jaget Kumar, his counterpart at the British Transport Police, he must brave the terrifying crush of London’s rush hour to find the source of the ghosts.

Also on sale from multiple retailers in the US only unless otherwise noted, but with 3x Bonus Points if you pick them up today as part of Kobo US' lingering Columbus Day sale:

@ $0.99:

Fortress in the Eye of Time by C. J. Cherryh via HarperCollins, 1st in her Fortress series of epic fantasy (#2 has previously been discounted recently). Also available in Canada.

@ $1.99
  • Ghost of the Well of Souls by Jack L. Chalker from Del Rey, a continuation of his Well World science fiction series, for which we've gotten one or two freebies from Phoenix Pick Press.
  • Running with the Demon by Terry Brooks from Del Rey, a prequel to his popular Shannara fantasy series.

@ $3.99
  • A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms by George R. R. Martin from Random House, a collection of the 3 Dunk & Egg novellas which are a prequel to the A Song of Ice and Fire series, lavishly illustrated with black-and-white sketches by Gary Gianni. This is a pretty nice edition which I also own in hardcover, and IMHO, the stories are generally better than much of the main series.
  • Ubik by the late Philip K. Dick via Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, a vintage science fiction standalone from the 1960s. Also available in Canada, and couponable/VIP-eligible for us.

There's also some Clive Barker, Christopher Golden, Brian Lumley, and Robert Bloch and The Walking Dead tie-in novels in the sale @ $2.99 for horror fans.

I fixed an error in the second link. I must have inadvertently "fixed" the first one while I was at it.

X-link to the DRM-free thread for a new StoryBundle:

The SFWA Fantasy Bundle edited by Cat Rambo contains mainly selections of newer work from more recent member authors, but there are a couple of award-winning titles in there, including James Stoddard's 1998 Warner Aspect 1st-in-trilogy novel which won the Compton Crook Award and placed 10th in Locus' Best First Novel rankings, and Erika L. Satifka's new Apex-published novel which just netted her the BFA's 2017 Sydney J. Bounds Best Newcomer Award. Plus stuff from Lisa Mason (I enjoyed her San Francisco Golden Age time travel novels originally out from Bantam; not offered in this bundle, I might add) and Canadian Aurora Award-winning author Douglas Smith.

Also, a reminder that expiring this Wednesday is Humble Book Bundle Haikasoru presented by Viz Media, if you think you might be interested in trying Japanese science fiction.

Nimisha's Ship by Anne McCaffrey is $1.99 for the next week. Bantam Press/Del Rey 1998. GR 3.89. All retailers.

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/nimisha-s-ship

Quote:
On Vega III, Lady Nimisha Boynton-Rondymense loves the challenging world of her father, Lord Tionel, owner and principal starship designer of the famous Rondymense Ship Yards. Precociously gifted, Nimisha becomes his secret assistant--and, in the aftermath of a shocking tragedy, his chosen successor at the helm of the Ship Yards.

When Nimisha takes an experimental ship on a solo test flight, something goes horribly awry, marooning her light-years from home on a planet as deadly as it is beautiful. Now the ruthless members of a rival branch of the Rondymense family are given the chance they've been waiting for: to reclaim the Ship Yards by any means necessary.

Only Nimisha's ingenious child, Cuiva, stands in their way. But for how long? For just when her daughter needs her most, Nimisha is in a precarious situation herself--and unable to help. But Nimisha has never given up in her life--and she's not about to start now . . . (

Any thoughts on this? There's good McCaffrey and not so good McCaffrey, and reviews on Amazon seem mixed.

$1.99 is on the edge for a read once. Try libraries?

You may wish to try her more accessible series, the ones that got her 'on the map', so to speak.

You can buy the ones below individually or you can buy it as one ebook.

I enjoyed the book but not her best output. For $1.99, I'd buy it but both Kobo and Amazon's Canadian pages show it at $8.99 so no special price in the Great White North.

Can only give you my personal opinion, but I think her Pern books are usually great but straight scifi seriously lacking. I'd try a Kindle sample or Look Inside before buying.
