That's a bummer. I really wanted to like the Kobo--support the smaller company and all that. But it just doesn't match my usage pattern.
I picked up a Kindle Voyage today to compare, and despite needing a azw3 conversion (which I was already doing for an older Kindle), it fits what I want to do a lot better. So the Kobo's going back. Quote:

![]() But thinking of the hours I've read, 999 hours seems a bit low. It should be the number of hours using any Kobo ereader. If I read one hour per day, that works out as 2.7 years. I'm at about 3.7 years with my Kobos and I would have thought my average was more than one hour a day. Plus, both my sons use Kobo's that log into my account, so should be contributing. Admittedly, one hardly reads, but for the other, an hour in a day would be a very light day. Last edited by davidfor; 07-20-2015 at 10:23 AM. Reason: Fixed quoting |

When I connected my Kobo Glo to Calibre I get this information:

Yes, those mean the database is corrupted. But, I would have expected a compress would worked. As this was during the a backup, I would recommend restoring a previous backup. If you don't have a good one, the only choice is to sign out on the device. That will replace the database with an empty one, restart the device and take you through the setup steps. Then it will reload the books that are on the device.

Thanks again ![]() In case I will have to restore a previous backup I know that it's not automatic process form Calibre. Which files and where should I copy to the device? Hi David,
when I changed the template and tried to restore the reading position afterwards, it wasn't able to identify the book on the reader (even though it definitely was there with the same filename, only with the changed path). Afterwards it was able to store the reading position (i.e., read the changed position and save it in calibre). The next test is whether it can now restore the reading position after it has stored it for the new path... Cheers, Joe |

The only other reason I can think of for this to fail is if you restructure the book. The Kobo (and ADE and Sonys) reading positions include the internal filenames. Change these and the restored position won't work when you open the book. |

Hi David,
tried again and now it says that it can update the book. So it seems that there is some reference to the actual path or canonical filename. Since changing the naming convention for the reader will happen never in practical life this shouldn't be any problem and is probably not worth following up on. But if you need me to test something to verify any hypothesis, please tell me :-) Cheers, Joachim |

Hi,
After thinking about it again and trying to remember the exact steps leading to the anomaly I believe that you are right, David, and that I tried it before ejecting the device. So, most probably everything is fine. If I can reproduce it by chance, I will try and capture it in debug mode. Thanks a lot, Joe |

Okay so I know the answer to this is probably somewhere in the 66 pages of thread, but damned if I can find it or have the time/brain capacity to read through all 66 pages. So, my problem is this. I'm routinely changing what books I carry on my Mini and switching books back and forth between it and my computer. And I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to save the read status and position of the books.
I feel like I'm missing something super obvious, but I added the columns in Utilities options, and I added a read status column in the library, but I don't know how to tie it all together and get it working? Like, do I have to add koboreadpct, koborating, kobolastread, and koboreadloc to somewhere other than Utilities options? I reeeeaaaaally need a For Dummies step-by-step thing here, because I have NO idea what I'm doing ![]() |

The configuration of the columns look right. To store the positions automatically, select the "Store current bookmarks on connect". When calibre sees the device, it will run the job to store the reading positions. At the end, it will prompt you wit a list of changes to accept.
You can store the positions manually by selecting the "Store/restore current bookmark" option in the menu of the plugin. This will prompt you with some options about the store or restore. |
