In his defense, he almost always buys on sale, frequently with huge discounts. He also has to dress well for his occupation (sales engineer in high tech) and I knew about his clothing habit when I married him. I enjoy nice clothes, too but I'm notoriously difficult to fit. Count me in as one who gets tired of the same old tropes in genre fiction. I recently finished the Black Dagger Brotherhood and Fallen Angel series (to date) and while they are quite good I found myself occasionally eye-rolling at some of the predicability because tropes gotta trope. Currently rereading ASOIAF (Game of Thrones) as I keep yelling at the TV. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I just rebooted my computer because my cordless mouse was acting funny, and now my whole Calibre library is gone. I click on Calibre and it's asking me to setup, no books in it at all. Luckily I backup my Calibre folder [ app data>roaming>calibre], but how do I go about getting it back to how it was before? I have different libraries too, will I have to do something separate for each? Gah, any fast help is appreciated. Not going to lie, I'm freaking out quite a lot. ![]() ETA, looks like everything is still on my computer so however I need to put my library back is it safe to use my calibre folder on my computer? ETA2: looking at them, no, the 2 file folders between my USB backup [has more files and is larger] and the folder on my computer are different. So I guess I'll have to use the USB folder? Best practice when it comes to backing up any data you care about is not only to put it on a different device, but in a different geographical location entirely. Anyone who has ever had a flood, tornado, or house fire, can tell you why... Cloud storage is your friend here. Only drawback with that is that you will trust your data/collection to servers hosted by someone else, but that's only a big deal for people who wear tinfoil hats or people who don't like paying for their entertainment media ![]() About cloud backup, by the way, don't stare yourself blind at dropbox just because they have a deal with certain e-reader companies. There are lot of other services out there, that give you a lot more space to play with, for the same generous fee of nothing, if you search a little. Take your pick. Excellent article on SBTB blog about Harlequin's new promo videos.
I really thought at first I was watching a tame rip off of the SNL skit of 50 shades. I'm appalled by those videos they show romance in a very poor light. What was Harlequin thinking!?! |

If you do backup your actual Calibre libraries to a cloud service, just be sure to turn the sync option off before you open Calibre if you are making ANY changes/additions to your libraries and turn it back on once you have closed Calibre. I originally had a shortcut to auto sync to my Copy cloud, but removed it after Kovid said that can cause issues since I am using Windows. You have to watch them. They are bad! Someone who isn't in romance had to come up with it. I think they were going for SNL humor but it miss its mark by a mile.

I have the first library working. Had to reinstall all the plugins. Thankfully all my files are there for my other libraries but I can't find any easy way to just import them back into Calibre like they were before. This is not the way I wanted to spend my Saturday...so frustrated. ![]() Surely there has to be an easy way to restore each library? Last edited by Blue2u; 05-30-2015 at 05:03 PM. |

Did your calibre folder backup have a subfolder named "plugins"? I thought that is where all the info was kept. Maybe ask in the Calibre forum. They are much more knowledgeable than I am. Also super friendly. |

I had to create new libraries, build them that way, then merge the old files into the new, then it would let me save them that way with the old names and delete the new ones. I have NO idea why this happened, or how I got to work really. I'm just relieved that they're all still there and hopefully all working now. I'm not going to attempt to sync or anything right now and I'll just hope for the best when the time comes. I'm so over this today, off to read and try to relax with what's left of the day. So to answer questions about backing up, yes, appdata>roaming>calibre helps immensely, but not as easy as you might think either. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
