He's a lightweight! It just looks like a lot of shoes because they're still boxed. My DH is a serious clotheshorse. The bedroom next to ours is converted to his dressing room. He owns 150 to 200 pairs of shoes. He tends to buy in multiples when he finds a style he likes and fits. In our bedroom he has a massive armoire just for his in season dress pants and sport coats. It holds 25 sport coats and 50 pairs of dress pants. He has at least 200 dress shirts. Again he buys multiples of shirts he likes. Oh yeah, he stores out of season clothes in our finished basement and easily fills a large walk-in closet and 10-12 tubs.

In his defense, he almost always buys on sale, frequently with huge discounts. He also has to dress well for his occupation (sales engineer in high tech) and I knew about his clothing habit when I married him.

I enjoy nice clothes, too but I'm notoriously difficult to fit.

Count me in as one who gets tired of the same old tropes in genre fiction. I recently finished the Black Dagger Brotherhood and Fallen Angel series (to date) and while they are quite good I found myself occasionally eye-rolling at some of the predicability because tropes gotta trope.

Currently rereading ASOIAF (Game of Thrones) as I keep yelling at the TV.

Spoiler:

Nicholas Robinson is a chemist decades ahead of his time. Crippled by a riding accident and embittered by his injuries, he shuns the world, focusing on his laboratory and experiments. But when the sale of his country estate, Grantley, leads to an encounter with a vampire, Nicholas realizes there is more in heaven and earth than he ever dreamed possible.

A Creature of Darkness

Although three hundred years old, Bancroft Ulwin is young by supernatural standards. Enslaved by his cruel, deformed maker, Ban is forbidden from relations with mortal men unless it ends in death. But his liaison with Nicholas, expressly against his master’s wishes, soon expands beyond mere lust to something more.

A Love Predestined

Long ago while still mortal, Ban met Serafino, the only true love of his life. When death separated them, Ban accepted his role as an enemy of human kind. But as he comes to suspect Nicholas is Serafino reincarnated, Ban begins to question everything he once believed. Including his own damnation.

I just rebooted my computer because my cordless mouse was acting funny, and now my whole Calibre library is gone. I click on Calibre and it's asking me to setup, no books in it at all.

Luckily I backup my Calibre folder [ app data>roaming>calibre], but how do I go about getting it back to how it was before? I have different libraries too, will I have to do something separate for each?

Gah, any fast help is appreciated. Not going to lie, I'm freaking out quite a lot.

ETA, looks like everything is still on my computer so however I need to put my library back is it safe to use my calibre folder on my computer?
ETA2: looking at them, no, the 2 file folders between my USB backup [has more files and is larger] and the folder on my computer are different. So I guess I'll have to use the USB folder?

To answer your first question, no, definitely not. If anything happens to that computer your backup dies along with your live library.

Best practice when it comes to backing up any data you care about is not only to put it on a different device, but in a different geographical location entirely. Anyone who has ever had a flood, tornado, or house fire, can tell you why...

Cloud storage is your friend here. Only drawback with that is that you will trust your data/collection to servers hosted by someone else, but that's only a big deal for people who wear tinfoil hats or people who don't like paying for their entertainment media

About cloud backup, by the way, don't stare yourself blind at dropbox just because they have a deal with certain e-reader companies. There are lot of other services out there, that give you a lot more space to play with, for the same generous fee of nothing, if you search a little. Take your pick.

Well, with Keslynn's help I was able to restore my main library by using the USB appdata>roaming>calibre file. After that I used library maintenance>restore database and that looks ok.

But I've lost all my plug-ins, preferences and all other libraries,[my Mom's, my daughters ]
any idea how to get those back? I thought the appdata files had everything.

Excellent article on SBTB blog about Harlequin's new promo videos.

I really thought at first I was watching a tame rip off of the SNL skit of 50 shades. I'm appalled by those videos they show romance in a very poor light. What was Harlequin thinking!?!

I imagine it was someone at HarperCollins who came up with the campaign. I haven't watched the videos and can see why some who read romance think they're tongue-in-cheek, but I'll echo the "What were they thinking!?!"

I hope you can get your plugins reloaded. I thought the appdata had that info too. But maybe it just has the settings for them?

If you do backup your actual Calibre libraries to a cloud service, just be sure to turn the sync option off before you open Calibre if you are making ANY changes/additions to your libraries and turn it back on once you have closed Calibre.

I originally had a shortcut to auto sync to my Copy cloud, but removed it after Kovid said that can cause issues since I am using Windows. See Here and here

You have to watch them. They are bad! Someone who isn't in romance had to come up with it. I think they were going for SNL humor but it miss its mark by a mile.

I searched, cannot for the life of me find any of Calibre's config files.

I have the first library working. Had to reinstall all the plugins.
Thankfully all my files are there for my other libraries but I can't find any easy way to just import them back into Calibre like they were before.
This is not the way I wanted to spend my Saturday...so frustrated.

Surely there has to be an easy way to restore each library?

Did you copy the entire "calibre" folder from a backup location? I only ask because when I reformatted my computer over a year ago I just copied my backed-up folder over to the roaming folder and all of my plugins were still there when I opened Calibre. I didn't have to reinstall them.

Did your calibre folder backup have a subfolder named "plugins"? I thought that is where all the info was kept.

Maybe ask in the Calibre forum. They are much more knowledgeable than I am. Also super friendly.

What Windows version do you have? It sounds like registry corruption. I would ask over at the Calibre forum.

I have the subfolder, but I had to enter each one again. I still don't have a 'config' file, but if anyone knows where it's located I'd sure like to back it up. What a pain.
I had to create new libraries, build them that way, then merge the old files into the new, then it would let me save them that way with the old names and delete the new ones. I have NO idea why this happened, or how I got to work really. I'm just relieved that they're all still there and hopefully all working now. I'm not going to attempt to sync or anything right now and I'll just hope for the best when the time comes. I'm so over this today, off to read and try to relax with what's left of the day.

So to answer questions about backing up, yes, appdata>roaming>calibre helps immensely, but not as easy as you might think either.

Thank you to those who helped, much appreciated. I apologize for getting off topic. Hope you all have a nice weekend.
