Am I the only one who is so sick of the assumption that all women spend most of their mental energies thinking about frickin' shoes?! Whenever I see anything in the description about shoes, I assume "chick lit" and move on to the next book.

I think in this book the heroine is a certain type of woman not your normal woman but the materialistic type so shoes, clothes, looks is super important to her.

Only a little bit. I'm a lot more irritated, to the point of actual anger, at the far too popular trope/archetype of the insecure and timid woman who is nothing but a doormat in disguise, and who finds her secret inner strength through the love of a good man who teaches her how to stand up for herself.

i know lots of women in real life who spend a fortune and tons of attention on shoes and fill their closets with them, always on the lookout for more and always working on better ways to store them. to my surprise, my daughter grew up to be one such woman.

me, i'd rather have a new bass or camera than shoes, and i wear vegan athletic shoes or work boots

and speaking of tired old beliefs is the one where women are always neater than men and decorate their homes regardless of personality type. so many authors tell us in so many books that when a woman lives someplace as it feels homey or if a man lives there it's messy and lacking.

c'mon - cleaning / homemaking isn't a genetic predisposition. i have male friends who have beautiful living spaces that they care for themselves and i know women - myself included - who are FAR from suzie homemaker.

I totally agree, I don't either like cleaning or homemaking. I like better being reading or software coding than with a broom.

Well JE Plum series Stephanie is a slob and Ranger is a neat freak. I've read other books the same way. Most are first person written or miltary hero. I think authors like to make opposites of the h/h for a more interesting read.

As for shoes I own three pairs. I had my tennys for 8 years and last year got two pairs of flats for dress occasions. I'm flat footed so shoes don't excite me. Had I pretty feet I'd probably have more. My mom in her old age has turn into clothes addict. She has a walk in closet full of shiny, glittery bedazzled clothes. I just experience yesterday going shopping with her. OMG! It was not fun. Her and Lula could have the same taste. Did I mention my mom is 75 years old! Hubby had to set her straight that I cannot wear anything sexy or see through so I got 6 t-shirts with glittery patterns on them.

Lately I've been obsessed with shoes because several of my favorite pairs bit the dust at once and I've had to shop for replacements, some on ebay because of course my faves are discontinued! Yesterday, I finally got a like-new pair of closed-toe Keen sandals that I loved and wore to pieces. Anyway, I don't mind clothing descriptions so much, it's the endless descriptions of interior decor that bore me. Maybe that's why I couldn't finish a Kristen Ashley book

Have you seen how many shoes Lisa Renee Jones hubby Diego has? I wouldn't worry about shoe obsession unless you have as many as he has. Just look on YouTube she posted a video. Now that's a shoe obsession.

I get most of my shoes at yard sales and thrift stores.

I did get a new RED case for my Kobo Glo HD today, shipped from China. It's so nice! Waiting for a lightly used standing case in Blue for my Fire HD 6.

Extra cases are a lot easier to store than extra shoes!

I took the survey, but it actually has nothing to do with superheroes I got an email with the code a few hours after completing it and I did not sign up for anything at the end.

ETA: Coupon exp 6/10 so I'm waiting to see if I have some sort of miracle and get a decent Kobo coupon first. Want to use it on some pre-orders for mid/late June.
