I'll back what PeterT is saying. And I think this is a short-term release to have something on the H2O while they are showing it around. I would expect another release around the time the H2O become available. Hopefully, it will also be released to the other devices, but, Kobo have delayed this in the past.

I consider it safe. I have had 3.8.0 on both my Touch and Glo as part of the beta testing. Both are working well, but I have only had them for a little more than a day. If you want to upgrade, doing it manually is no more dangerous than when it is pushed to you over WiFi. And, the instructions in the first few posts in the thread are what you should follow.

I will admit I'm not one who likes to recommend anyone download a f/w.

I've been using 3.8.0 since it was pushed to the external testers around 5 pm (Toronto time) on the 26th (ie yesterday). This build was the first we'd seen since 3.5.0 had been released, and came as a bit of a surprise to us.

Shortly after installing it I did have a crash while I was adjusting margins in a side-loaded ePub, and was able to send Kobo the stack file from it.
