Hello Guys,
I just got Kindle PW 2 - 90D5. My idea was to read Safari books as I already have account for it over 3G.
Could you let me know if the jailbreak or usbnetworking can help me to progress on that ?
I believe I can do something like local DNS records and reach safari instead of amazon.
Are this jailbreak and usbnetworking compatible with my version ?

@mindjigger: Since I have no idea what Safari is, besides a web browser, I'm not gonna touch this one, but it's probably either more complex than you thought or way simpler.

As for the rest, yes, your device/fw version is supported.

@NiLuJe - I meant safaribooksonline. I'm done with the root access. Now looking how to make it browsing safaribooksonline instead of amazon.
I would appreciate any hints about that.

I see the DNS-es are amazons which are limited. I put those of google but can't figure out how to remove the browser restriction.
Any ideas ?
It looks it's doing also tunnel to amazon. I think it would be better if I can use directly the 3G but not over this tunnel

@mindjigger: If you're talking about bypassing 3G restrictions, then meeeep, you're on your own (cf. forum & subforum guidelines) [also: don't].

Which is probably what you're talking about, since nothing's preventing you from browsing whatever the hell you want over WiFi in the browser.

If you were trying to repurpose the KindleStore Booklet, then that is way, way, way more involved than that, and no one has done it since the K4, AFAIK.

hey ,when I dwnld the attachments , a random php file titled 'attachment' downloads(for both of em)
I am using IE , can that be the reason?
also , I have made some progress on my kin , like highlights,dictionary,book collections,..
will I need a backup b4 the jb or is my personal data safe?

fixed the issue for the php thing.
if anyone else has the issue I stated in my previous comment , just rename the extension php to zip.
although I still want do know about the backup requirement.

Not all of our attachments here are *.zip files.

Ah, what is called a "(device) jailbreak" here is just the addition of a signature certificate.

There are two solutions to the downloading-as-php problem.

1. Stop using IE (I am biased towards this option. )
2. Put IE into compatibility mode for MobileRead.

Hi,

I just got a Kindle Paperwhite 2 Touch (Wifi only). I bought it off of ebay from the USA, and it was shipped to where I live (Canada). I have a few questions.

Serial number: 90D4
Firmware version: 5.4.2.1

First question: I'm confused as to whether or not my Kindle is still jailbroken or not. I followed the instructions correctly.
When I exit out of the settings screen (example, when I go into the home menu), and go back into the settings screen, the **jailbreak** is gone. I can click on 'update your kindle', but it doesn't do anything. Is my Kindle still Jailbroken? I'm confused, this is my first Kindle and my first time Jailbreaking anything.

Second question: if it is still Jailbroken, how can I remove the ads? Is there an app I have to download that will do that? Which one?

Third: How do I add a custom screensaver?

Fourth question: How do I sort my books into categories (example: by series). I formatted them correctly and set their metadata correctly using Calibre, then imported them on my Kindle using Calibre, but my kindle shows them as one jumble. I know I can sort them by title and author, but the 'sort by: collections' is greyed out.

Do I have to download an app that will sort them? If so, which one do you recommend?

I'm trying to find a way to pay to get the ads off my of Paperwhite (and so I can add custom screensavers), but I can't see the option to. Is there a way to do it on the computer?
