I like when I just look there and see the time immediately. Kinda same thing with newer casio watches. Just move the hand slightly and it turns on the light for some seconds so you can see the time even in the dark without the need to push buttons. Also, there’s plenty of space in the header or footer (I have one of them turned on), so why not put something toggleable there which is actually useful? |

I'm going to say no. I don't use the UI on the kobo to buy books or borrow books. The only account information I provided was my initial Kobo credentials when I first setup the device. And on the same day I turned off wifi on the Kobo.

Then it's still a mystery why some of us can change the time and some can't. It's not the software version either, as you said you're on 4.37 and can't, while I can both on 4.34 and 4.38. And some can't on the latest version.

Until someone else who is using 4.37.* (the specific version number I am using) says they can update the date/time, it seems a little premature to say it's not a software version. I don't know how many versions there were between 4.34.* and 4.38.*, but it is possible that a bug/feature was introduced and then fixed.

For what it's worth; I judt tried a test on my Kobo Libra H2O on f/w 4.38.23429.
I did a factory reset through the Device Information menu and setup the device using a NEW Kobo account created through the device using my HotMail account. After Initial syncs I was able to go to Settings | Date and Time and click on Date to manually change date. I then did another reset and setup using my regular Kobo account that has Kobo Plus and is associated with both my local Library (Toronto Public Library) and InstaPaper. After initial syncs I could no longer click on Date to change the date on the device. |
