No. There's no way (currently) to turn off the "update notice." But if it's popping up every time you start Sigil, then something else is wrong. After it checks for a newer version, it won't check again for a minimum of 6 hours. And even then, it should only notify you ONCE per new version. Once you get the notice about 0.9.13 being available, that's it until a newer version is posted.
If that's not the behavior you're experiencing, then your backed-up INI's aren't as corruption-free as you might think they are. Last edited by DiapDealer; 03-27-2019 at 08:35 PM. |

I hope people who are experiencing issues are truly testing this newest version of Sigil with freshly generated, default preferences to rule out corruption being the culprit. I can't stress hard enough that that should be the very first thing to try.

If you've gotten multiple notifications that 0.9.13 is available, then that's wrong. That shouldn't happen. I think you have corruption in your Sigil.ini file. If under the [updatechecker] section of Sigil.ini, the last_online_version doesn't say 0.9.13, then your last_check_time value is likely corrupted. Delete all three of those lines from your Sigil.ini file and then rerun Sigil. That will recreate the entries and you should only get one more warning about 0.9.13 being available and then never again. But I worry that if those items are corrupted, that other items in your INI files might be too. You should seriously consider starting over with fresh preferences. At the very least, move them from where they are now, let Sigil create brand-new ones and see if your performance issue goes away. |

Okay here is what I have done.
I uninstalled Sigil 9.10 after backing up my INI files. I deleted the C:\Users\Brent\AppData\Local\sigil-ebook folder. I shut down my laptop completely. I restarted my system. I installed Sigil 9.13. I shut down my laptop completely. I restarted my system. I opened the Gutenburg file I have saved local. I despise cloud anything. I started renaming, splitting at cursor, and even cut and pasted some text and two images. I then checked my medical balance using Google Chrome, and even paid the bill. I closed Google Chrome and Sigil was open behind. I deleted an empty HTML file. When I save the file I got a quick not responding. (See Memory.png) I the checked what files were in the startup tab (See Startup) I decided the run a report on the Sigil file and received reports not responding (See Reports not responding) Look at memory (See reports) reports did eventually appear. Will continue modifying file. Last edited by brent63; 03-28-2019 at 02:17 PM. |

I closed Chrome and went to Sigil.
I accidentally deleted a html file, so I closed sigil without saving. When I opened the file I got not responding but it did open. |

AvLauncher is part of Avast free anti virus and should not be running if you are using Windows Defender. I think Apdproxy is some sort of background program to upload images as part of Adobe software and should probably be disabled.
In fact anything non-microsoft should be temporarily disabled (and reboot into safe mode) and then try again with Sigil just in case something here is messing with it. |

took a break for a bit, Laptop slept while I did.
when I opened my laptop I logged on and saved, then closed the File. I right clicked on the Sigil desktop icon and selected to run as administrator. I when I open and save the file I get a not responding but the action continues and I continue. |

FWIW, Windows Defender is built-in and does a good job. If you search on the web many people are calling AVG basically malware as it makes itself hard to uninstall and causes cpu spikes and other slowdowns.

Having dueling antivirus programs can almost be worse than having none. Neither knows about the other's quarantine location, or about the other's exclusions. Combining them is always a bad idea.
Microsoft's Defender provides full-blown antivirus protection. You don't really need another. But if you want to use another, you should at least find a way to disable Defender first. |
