I tried the surface pro at Costco. The stylus had skipping problems and you could use it about an eight of an inch above the glass. I couldn't find where the apps were, it took 10 minutes, maybe because it was running 8. IMO, the iPad pro has everything I've been waiting for: a stylus that works at least as well as a 2000 compac ipac, using at least 2 screens at a time, a fuller working ms office, and a bigger screen. I don't like the price. Today, the way they upgrade the OS you need gigs available just to do so. 16 gig is not enough, 32 is minimum. But with my large PDF files, I need 64. So $950 for the 128 model is minimum, plus $100 for the pencil. The only thing they must add is an SD slot for photos and the ability to write out files to the card in order to share for those without cloud access or air drop. Oh, and Apple has to fix their ability to select text for copy and paste. It quit working well several OSs ago. |

...) it could cause irregularities if the damage interfered with the pressure sensitivity. As for finding apps- where were you looking? if you are on the start screen, just type Last edited by Dulin's Books; 09-12-2015 at 11:37 AM.

I'd say that was an issue with the that particular demo device. I have a Surface 3 and my pen works great and no significant skipping. It will show where the cursor will be when the pen is suspended over the screen, but mine won't write unless it's touching, and in fact requires slight pressure on contact with the screen, not just contact.

I'm disappointed with the direction Apple is taking with the iPad Pro. For 'productivity', I think you need to be able to do most things with a physical keyboard and trackpad/mouse. It is no good if you have to touch the screen to do so many things. Both Surface-type and Android devices let you do this without any issues, or surprises. External keyboards with iOS don't even let you do reasonable things, like using arrow keys or tab or page up/page down to navigate UI, unless you enable Accessibility, and then they do it very inefficiently. I see no justification for this, apart from some arbitrary philosophical design decision to keep MacBooks and iPads as distinct device types. 'Hybrid' is apparently some sort of evil. So no touch screen for MacBooks, and no mouse cursor for iPads. I don't get it. This makes me more interested in getting a Surface Pro... |

Given how Apple has ridiculed Windows for supporting touchscreens on desktop and laptop computers (because of the obvious ergonomic issues with holding your arm out to touch the screen for any length of time), it is ironic that iPads have exactly the same ergonomic issue when you have them in a stand (for extended keyboarding) and have to do something with the UI (other than the meager navigation that keyboards support). Especially now that they are positioning this as a 'for business' device vis a vis Surface Pro and similar devices. And apparently there's no system level support for handwriting recognition, when using the stylus. Microsoft is way ahead on this. I keep thinking I'm missing something. Haven't watched the keynote intro yet, but I don't see how they can position this stylus thing as being 'better' than having mouse support, except for 'drawing' specifically. And why not have both? I'm also wondering where iPad Pro leaves Wacom, Adonit, 53 and their rather heroic (but seemingly doomed) efforts to make a stylus that works well with an iPad. Will third party styluses be possible, eventually? (it seems not, at least for now) Last edited by tomsem; 09-14-2015 at 10:11 PM.

Thanks for the breakdown, tomsem. I had an iPad Air and never knew a bluetooth mouse would not work. On other forums folks plan on replacing their MacBook with this. Perhaps they are not aware of no mouse support. Now that I have my Samsung Tab S2 and Samsung keyboard cover with trackpad, and mouse support, I leave my MacBook Air home. It’s not hard to use a stylus instead of a mouse, provided it has a few customizable buttons.
