Yeah it's brilliant how many people have gifted or received Kindles as presents this year Some very generous peeps out there.

Shouldn't you feel like a happy wiggly kitten?

I agree it is great to see a bunch of new people enjoying their new readers. Just within my extended family I know there are like 6 or 7 of us who own Kindles. This time last year there were 2.

So nice to see new handles and hear their stories. I know that I was not sure I would keep my K1 when I asked for it for my birthday three years ago. It took me all of an hour to quickly realize that I would not be reading paper books any more.

Welcome to the boards and to e-reading. I hope you continue to enjoy your Kindles.

Well said! I can't say I've heard of one story where people got a kindle and are dissatisfied with it. I'm sure there've been a few technical hitches for some people, but no one's gotten a functioning one and had to re-gift it.

Somehow or another that sounds right to me. I am glad that she is loving it and wants to share the joy.

My Uncle thanked me for introducing him to the Kindle at Christmas this year. He got a K2 as soon as they were released. My Aunt and Uncle travel a ton so I thought that the Kindle would be perfect for them. They would be able to carry books and get newspapers during their travels. He tried reading on his IPad but has decided that the IPad is too heavy for reading in bed and bought my Aunt her own Kindle so they don't have to share.

Sounds like your family's lifestyles would be perfect for the Kindle. It's amazing how easily it can fit into people's everyday routines.

You post makes me wonder how Kindle sales compared with iPad sales. Hmm.

I gifted a K1 to a friend of mine who was ill a few months ago, and to say that she loves it is putting it mildly. It gives mea good feeling to see her clutching her K1 with a smile on her face.

The fun is in the giving.

Cheers

I promised Santa/wife I'd mainly catch up on my 18th to early 20th century free public domain reading if I got one. True to my word, I only bought one book so far, the other 25 or so are free!

Love it so far, the only glitch is that two of the books on top of my want list are UK only. I could have the physical books from amazon.co.uk sent to me, but am not allowed to buy the kindle version. Does that make any sense at all? Suggestions? They are:
Louise Wener - Different For Girls: A girl's own true-life adventures in pop
Hannu Rajaniemi - The Quantum Thief

i'm hugely -- and vicariously -- enjoying this thread. great topic.

@madzippy, the kindle3 and nook were both given to you as gifts -- maybe it's ok if you keep them both? as 'iffy' as the fate of barnes & noble is, you can still use the nook to borrow books from the library.

i have no regrets myself about having chosen the kindle, but have recently begun to think about a second, non-amazon device for library borrowing. you might also like having a device around to lend to a friend, or for overnight visitors to use. yeah, it's a luxury, but it's not like you went out and bought yourself two devices!

I love my Kindle!

I had thought about getting an eReader off and on for several years, but each time I convinced myself that I didn't "need" one. When I read all the buzz about the new Kindles this fall, that got me very interested again.

I discovered this wonderful forum several months ago when I was researching which device fit my needs best (Kindle, Sony, or Nook?). In early December, I gave myself the gift of a Kindle 3G WiFi. It's the best purchase I've made in a while. It has exceeded my expectations in every way! I even enjoy having it read to me.
