I think I paid more for this than for 99.5% of the ebooks I've bought: $10.86, back when it was available at Fictionwise. I probably shouldn't have done, as I could buy it now from Amazon for £5.99, about $9.
Well, it's about what I expected. It's told deliberately as if of the ancient past, so there's no immediacy or tension in the story. And it's a sad story. The commentary on the text is interesting (and has links to it from varius bits of the text of the story), but I recommend leaving the commentary until after reading the whole of the story.

Really, if you've read The Silmarillion you've read this story, just in a shorter form. There's not a great deal extra that I noticed, although I haven't compared the texts.

Ok, a change of pace for my next read: The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie

This is the first of Agatha Christie's novels, and is out of copyright in the US, but not in life+50 or life+70 countries.

I bought it back in February 2010 for $0.76 during a fictionwise sale. A very good price, IMO. Now to see if it was also a good buy!

i am reading right now the "edge of shadows" from Brent Weeks.
that's the second book of the night angel - trilogy.
http://www.amazon.com/Shadows-Edge-N.../dp/0316033650

normally i do not read fantasy, but the first book started good and since i like to read books in a historic setup, it's good to read.

does anyone read that on too or had read it?
if so - how did you like it?

Finished reading (p-book) Theories for Everything, by John Langone, Bruce Stutz and Andrea Gianopoulos ISBN: 0-7922-3912-1
A wonderfully readable reference book.

Now reading (p-book) The Joy of X, by Michael Willers ISBN: 978-0550-10523-3

Still re-reading and enjoying (e-book) The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain.
Some of his descriptions are delightful:
Spoiler:
Away off in the flaming sunshine, Cardiff Hill lifted its soft green sides through a shimmering veil of heat, tinted with the purple of distance; a few birds floated on lazy wing high in the air; no other living thing was visible but some cows, and they were asleep.

now I finished the Godfather by Mario Puzo, I'm switching back and forth between the origami book and the Golden Compass ('cause you guys have been talking a lot about it, I decided it was time to step in. You all love the book and not the movie. I never read it, but watched the movie and all I remember is I like Daniel Craig didn't understand a thing from the movie.)

I'm STILL reading the Mists of Avalon. I can't remember when the last time I took so long to read a book. I've got less than 100 pages left, hopefully I will finish it tonight. I'm reading the Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy on the side, though

Not all.

I didn't see the movie and I didn't think the book was all that great, but mostly I was infuriated by the religious propaganda in the book, which would have been annoying if written for adults but I found completely uncalled for in a children's book. But maybe that is a debate for the politics & religion forum.

Just started the second Virgin River book. Shelter Mountain, I think it's called. I bought the first four books bundled for Kindle for relatively cheap. I liked the first one a lot, and since I just bought a book, I figured I'd read at least one more of these so I don't have to spend money for a little while. (;

Currently reading "The Idiot" by Dostoevsky, I've been trying to expand my reading horizons after reading mostly SciFi for the last year or so(with a smattering of robert rankin and jasper fforde).

I'm listening to Bridget Jones' Diary again - I need something funny after the grim book I'm finishing up about the global conflict of Christianity vs. Islam.

yeah, I downloaded The mists of Avalon too and was surprised by its size. I was supposed to read it, but decided to leave it there til I have the right moods for long works: And Quiet Flows the Don is in that list, too. tell me what you think when you finish it, will you?

I'm at the first pages and so don't have any comment.

p&r forum is a place I don't really want to post in. Just lurk and read others' posts and replies - my English isn't that good to debate yet. hopefully, I'll get involved when I finish the Advanced Specialized English course
