So my programmers had to start over. I sent the new design specifications to the external organization for review and everything seemed right. Earlier this week I uploaded our generated flat file to the external organization's system. Got an error. External organization didn't have time to look at it until late yesterday. I got a response this morning. Apparently our file needs 2 more fields that we didn't even know were required! Shouldn't they have noticed this during the revised spec review?! And this was only the first of two flat files we have to upload to them. I can't even test the second file until the first one uploads successfully.

This is what I call job security. Believe me, no one really looked at your specs. They sign off on them... we don't care if they look at them, as long as they sign off... so when there is a problem or it doesn't do what they "wanted" we show them that it does do what they "asked for".

Don't let it bother you too much... What does being furious change?

Just because it says "review" doesn't mean that they did it.

On a related rant....

I can't stand people who try to tell you how easy it is to do your job and then when they find out that it isn't quite as easy as they thought you're the one that has cram 4 hours of programming into 15 minutes.

We had a web site out for client review, the sales person called on them during their review to see how things were going and the client said everything was great but that they wanted a button on one of online report pages that when clicked would send them the report in an Excel file. To which our sales person said - "Oh, sure they can add a button pretty quick, I've seen them do it before." She was of course referring to a print screen convenience button we added on a site once.

It's just really frustrating. This project has had constant problems.

I'm usually one of those people expecting a miracle from the programmer in a very short time frame. Thank goodness my programmers have started showing me how to read the logic in the code so I'll know just what kind of magic I'm expecting them to perform. I've already talked to the person coding my fix and this one is actually pretty simple.

Sure... adding the button is pretty simple. Generating the XLS report is probably a bit more time consuming.

I always tell them we can add a button to a page in about 30 seconds, even change the background color it too. But, if they want anything to happen when the button is clicked that is a whole 'nother story.

Well...if I wasn't so crazy about him that might be an option. But I remember how miserable he was, and I don't want him having to do that again, LOL.

God Bless You!

I hope it's short-lived! My husband has had a terrible problem with his sinuses for almost a month now! He finally went to the Now Clinic last week to get antibiotics. Not a great way to start a new job. He hasn't missed any work because of it, but has been completely miserable. You weren't at the store the night I was there restocking our supply of Puffs Plus (among other things)!

Get well soon!

When you're a couple you share everything, pain included. But when you get to share joy and good moments it's stronger than anything you feel alone...
