I honestly don't know. All I see is the UK iBook store, so I don't know what's in, say, the French or the German version of the store. Perhaps someone in those countries could tell us?

IMHO, of course.

Yepp. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens in Sweden. There is e-readers available but when most of the readers cost over 300 dollars, Kindle becomes very attractive.
I am waiting for the price war to reach sweden.

Why should that matter? As Apple isn't the only bookstore and people will buy books from other bookstores as well. And you won't be able to read those other books, even though they're also in epub...

A real example can be found on the Dutch forum for ebook readers.

Somebody bought an Ipad, and bought books from bol.com (our major online bookstore). But he couldn't read those books, because they used Adobe DRM while the Ibook app from Ipad didn't support it.

But, with all due respect, it's the buyer's responsibility to find out whether or not the book they are buying can be read on the device they wish to read it on.

That is correct, it is the buyer's responsibility, but at the same time this highlights a weakness in advertising ebooks and readers, especially for the less-savvy population.

True. But can you really demand a buyer to know the differences between the various DRM infestations around? He will read DRM'd epub and presumes that DRM'd epub is DRM'd epub.

Yes, I agree entirely. That, of course, has always been the major selling point of the Kindle; its extremely simple on-device book purchase and wireless delivery mechanism. Anyone who's ever had to mess around with ADE, etc, to buy an ePub book will appreciate that!

Never got enough courage together to actually buy a DRM'd epub book But I did buy 3 Kindle books, which are now happily residing on my BeBook Mini.

Yes, it's convenient that not only do Amazon sell a good range of eBooks, but that their DRM mechanism is the easiest of all to remove.

Not to go into too much detail, but if you use the "Kindle for PC" app you don't need to worry about PIDs either - DRM removal is totally automated for that, and it works beautifully.

Because they don't offer that book. Or, if they do offer it, chances are I won't be able to buy it. And my reader reads mobipocket or epub. Depending on my reader

I've been hovering over the buy button of a few Dutch books since november last year. But they're in epub... If they were in mobipocket, I'd have bought them a long time ago! And since there is no application for three of my readers that will allow me to read DRM'd epub...

In my own case, because very often Amazon's prices are a fraction of what sites like Waterstones charge, and because they have a much better selection.
