That doesn't matter. I used to buy his hardbacks the second they came out......and see how long I could go without reading them. It was like a special treat.

Yes.......its rotten King is allowing this to happen, and make no mistake, he can blame the publishers all he wants, but HE has the power here.

But the price is right, and it will still not be read as soon as its downloaded.

Beside..........I have 769 more books to choose from......

So sensible! I have 53 pages of books. I guess I can find something else to read. I shouldn't get so upset about things I cannot control (isn't that a prayer. . .?)

I think we have a legitimate complaint here. Personally, I'd love to have Mr. King in front of me right now.

My stick is ready.

I think we should all take a breath here and maybe do a "forest for the trees" moment.

I think King is quite happy and financially secure in his position. I also don't think he is as greedy as some are making him out to be. the position of independent booksellers is quite tenuous anymore and his (albeit misdirected) attempt to assist them should be applauded. we are a clever bunch. couldn't we come up with better ideas?

Better than smacking him upside the head for his misbegotton belief that delaying the ebook release will magically make more sales for the paper version?

For punishing his loyal fans for daring to prefer the ebook format?

I don't think so. But thats just me.

I think King is quite happy and financially secure in his position. well, yeah.....I also don't think he is as greedy as some are making him out to be. why else would he allow those horrendous movie adaptations to be made? the position of independent booksellers is quite tenuous anymore and his (albeit misdirected) attempt to assist them should be applauded. we are a clever bunch. couldn't we come up with better ideas?
I can't think of anything!!! I can't get past the stupidity of delaying the ebook release.. It just doesn't make sense to alienate an entire segment of your fans.

Or maybe I'm just a grump.

I am not a King "FAN", but I do enjoy his work and have listened/watched him on TV and radio when he has had interviews. I truly think his heart is with the little guy, he thought this was a good idea, and just really missed his step. *shrug* who knows. I think he tried, and I respect that. I also think that there is a *something* out there, and we just need to stumble upon it

If he cared so much about the little guy, what about the little guy who really loves King, but can't afford a pbook and an ebook? Or who has given up pbooks for environmental reasons.

I'm with DesertGrandma. I used to be sooo excited about a new King book. This whole thing has kind of ruined the experience. We have more and more authors doing this (the Kennedy Biography, Palin). Hopefully, the price war over pbooks will end this tactic. Otherwise, we always have the stick!

*** Possible SPoiler Alert re. Dark Tower series ***

I'm personally mad about how King ruint the Gunslinger series. Finishing Book 4, I thought this was the best, rivaling Tolkien, book 5 ended ominously... "Harry Potter" makes his appearance in the book, by book 6 I realized I'd been screwed when Stephen King makes his appearance in the story, and I was stupid enough to read book 7 to make sure I was screwed

Anyway, do yourselves a favor and don't read Stephen King.

I think Mr. King has shown a willingness to experiment with formats, like serializing The Green Mile. He has also shown a willingness to walk away from an experiment when it doesn't work, The Plant. I think he will probably recognize the failure and not replicate it.

I was recently thinking of this:

Why not make a "high priced" Kindle version available on November 10th for like $20 or even the full $35? That way most sane people would get the real cheaper hardcover, and weirdo ebook nerds like me would buy the more expensive Kindle edition?

Then you can lower the price of the ebook on Dec. 24th.

Because no one with any sense at all would pay that?

Well, I would pay $15, just so I didn't have to wait. Of course, that wouldn't make much sense, since the $9 ebook would be out there. I don't understand this at all. I am afraid it is a harbinger of things to come. First, the Kennedy book isn't released in ebook, then the Palin book was delayed (not that that bothers me) and now Stephen King. I am glad Harry Potter is over - I don't need to get stressed about it. In the future, I won't get caught up with authors that don't make their books available in ebook form.

Oh, well . . .
