Try it and see if it works to allow you to change the time and/or the timezone. If it works, you can then update the firmware and try again to see if it's a firmware issue.

In the past 10 years nothing significant happened in the kobo firmware at least from the user side. Maybe the fast page turning (how many of you're using that?), dark mode, and now instapaper. But the reader program itself hasn't received any feature improvements in a decade.

Kobo’s dark mode is a low effort feature anyway.
It sets the book’s text to dark, but the menus stay white, which feels like a quasar beaming into my face if I’m not careful in the middle of the night.

Faster, fixed bugs, works well. All this is 4.38.23171. Maybe it will allow the time and/or timezone to be changed.

Allows hopping between an ebook or PDF and an Advanced notebook with pen entered real text. Just add a number to ref notebook on the epub annotation. Handy on Sage.

Or if working on several related non-fiction.

And the font-weight options for sideloaded fonts. Before you had to use a patch for this.

Also the option to disable the header and footer.

I can change the time with 4.34 on my Sage, so it's not that.

By the reader program, are you referring to the RMSDK renderer used for ePub files (basically an ePub2 renderer that handles Adobe's ADEPT DRM) or the ACCESS/WebKit/Readium based renderer used for kepub with excellent support for ePub3 features? The RMSDK renderer has not moved to the later versions (ADE 4 equivalent) which would have better ePub3 features. Using their own renderer allows Kobo to use their own encryption and avoid the cost for books sent with ADEPT encryption.

Folks should be thankful that Kobo moved on from their initial reading solution that stored books as blobs in the database (this was in the days of the Kobo Bluetooth).

I mean by user experience, using koreader as a reference and compare the differences between the two. Like what was the reading experience in 2015 with nickel and koreader, and what is today.

Koreader is free and open source, while to use Nickel you (probably) have to pay for it in some way, as you can only use it on kobo hardware.

I use Nickel, and I like it, but why we still can't have a clock on the reader by default? They could just add a toggle for it. There were reading awards, which broke like around 2018, then disappeared from the firmware a couple of years ago. (This one is not a big deal though, but was cute and may motivated people to read more.) So small things like that could've been improved, but they haven't. We have almost more toggles in user patches than actual settings on a kobo reader.
Of course it is still better than amazon who only cares about DRM.

Well I don't really feel a huge speed improvement between my Aura and Libra 2, but what I actually do is probably because of the newer screen tech, and not because of the kobo part. Yeah I know, the new kobo line of products are actually faster with the different chipset, but those are not for me. I'm holding to my Libra as it was some kind of rare magical treasure on a big deserted island.
