I read on a tablet and it doesn't bother my eyes at all. Of course my wife thinks I am weird anyway.
I spend my day working on small objects using both an optivisor and a microscope or two. So...........maybe she is right.

The only time I use my tablet is when I NEED to see in color (charts/diagrams), and those are also PDF. For all my normal reading; EINK. Loving the front light on my Kobo as it seems to help with contrast.

I went about a year and a half without reading on an eink device when I got my iPad mini. Currently it is about 50/50. Main thing in favor of Kindle for me is that it weighs less and I can ‘abuse’ it more (not only is it pretty damage resistant, but replacement cost is far lower). If it did Immersion reading (synchronized audiobook playback with page turns) and TTS, I’d use it more. It bothers me that the touch isn’t as consistent or responsive as the cheapest tablet, but I forget about it once I start reading something.

My eyes are good with either, even though eInk still looks kind of muddy to me, on the PW4 (Voyage was a little better but mine died), and ironically fingerprints bother me more on it than on the tablet. I have joked about ‘reading gloves’ but maybe it is something I should investigate.

I've had trouble with glowing screens for years, it's what drove me to e-ink as much as possible.

They usually always are.

And on the rare occasion that I am right, I apologise immediately.

That describes me to a T. I need people to know that I frequent high-end, exclusive and fashionable shops like Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

I remember when I faced an embarrassment trying to secure a table at The French Laundry. I flashed the maître d' my Kobo and a dollar bill. Problem solved
