I certainly can't tell the difference, but some people say they can. Perhaps young people with better eyesight than us oldies!

Oh heck no. The Oasis is a disaster. Don't make a new one. The price was stupid and this one would be even more stupid price wise.

A 6.8" Voyage with 32GB storage would be much better.

I hope the prevalence of those screens means that Amazon is ordering them too, and just taking longer to design and release a good firmware.
Given Amazon's reluctance to make larger screen readers after the disaster they had with the DX, I would say a 7.8" Kindle is out. If Amazon does try a larger screen I would think they'd go with 6.8".

I cannot find anything about a press event for tomorrow. But, I've found a press even for October 18, 2017. It just mentions

Description

The Greater Sacramento Economic Council, a regional economic development group, in partnership with community partners, will annouce their bid for Amazon's second headquartered location on October 18th. Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive will lead the press conference along with Mayor Darrell Steinberg, Mayor Susan Rohan and our regional constituents.

The regional economic development group, in partnership with community partners have spent the last five weeks working on a comprehensive package to compete for Amazon’s second headquartered location focusing on the region’s talented, innovative ecosystem.

The economic development group, a public-private partnership of 38 CEO’s and 19 communities, built a coalition to support this effort, which includes Sacramento Kings owner Vivke Ranadive leading the effort.
Also, Amazon already had a hardware event on September 27, 2017 and no new eInk Kindle. So where is the proof that this event is real?

Celebrating 30 years of bifocals here. (21 when I got my first pair).
That being said, yep people with better vision might could tell the difference.

I've compared my H2O to an 800x600 Pearl 6" Reader and the difference was amazing.

I've seen my H2O in comparison to a PW3 and the PW3 did not look any sharper. So I don't think the difference is noticeable and 35dpi difference is irrelevant.

Do you have perfect eyes? If so, that is very interesting.

Well now on tablets, there is a significant difference between an old Fire and a newer Galaxy.

If Amazon doesn't release new readers, they will have angry costumers. Maybe not enough to hurt the Kindle brand, but still...

Interestingly, the two most non-observed Holidays in the USA are:
Columbus Day (today - so your boss isn't the only one deserving )
and
Veteran's Day (November 11 - observed this year on November 10)

Ironically, with politically influenced Holiday calendars and all, the "Day that will live in infamy" has never made the cut to become even a note on the Federal Calendar.
