The natural light is too high. If it's turned down (or off), then you may find the contrast improved.

I personally find that a picture comparison just cannot show the difference. Especially the orange is a lot more orange than it is in real life!

I have the One, with the natural light set very high (don't know the percentage by heart). My husband has a Kindle, naturally without natural light.
When I put them side by side, my One is very orange. At least, for a few seconds. Then the One turns (due to my brains adjusting, probably) less orange and the Kindle turns even more blue. So blue that it becomes harsh.

On my H2O (which always had a more yellowish tint than the Kindle), I couldn't read in a dark bedroom unless I put nightmode on. It was too bright, even at the lowest brightness that still gave some contrast.
On my One, again at the lowest brightness that still gives enough contrast, in a dark bedroom, I am not blinded by the light. I am, however, blinded by the light that comes off from the reader used next to me: the Kindle.

I just got these blue blocking "biorhythm" glasses off amazon.

Quote:
Tested to block 100% of light from 280 - 490nm (this includes UV). Blocks 99.82% of light in the critical 450 - 510nm range. This is the most disruptive wavelength of light at night. It is also the same frequency of light that is blasted directly into your eyeballs from electronic devices!
These aren't as dark as my other pair and they work great. I was reading on the Oasis last night and the screen was nice and orange. This simple solution really works for me. Highly recommended even if you look a little dorky before bed. There are even more expensive stylish $70 ones that are a different brand.
