When I was a kid, I thought I could get big, cut and lean muscles by flexing under the hot shower for a while. I figured people were stupid for working out to "feel the burn" when I could just run hot water on myself.

I used to think Donovan tunes were the background music to the Wile E. Coyote & Roadrunner cartoons.

When I was 4 years old, my grandmother sent me a View Master & some Looney Tunes discs as a Christmas gift. Since my mother played Donovan music a lot & the View Master didn't have audio, I thought the music she played on her stereo was the audio to what I was seeing.

Even now, when I hear "Sunshine Superman" or "Mellow Yellow," I think of Wile E. Coyote.

Double-posting is generally not allowed on bulletin boards, but I hate to see this thread sink & almost disappear off the first page, so I'm posting again...

When I was a kid, I thought it was "Valentime's Day" instead of Valentine's Day.

Happy belated "Valentime's Day" everyone.

I suppose mis-heard lyrics are a rich vein of anecdotes for this thread.

I used to wonder what "calidas" were, and what the girl was doing with them when she went by.

"A girl with calidas goes by"

Anyone recognise the mangled lyrics and song?

Spoiler:

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

"A girl with kaleidoscope eyes"

As a very young child I pronounced "birthday" as "birfday" or something similar.

As far as song lyrics go, thank the cosmos for the internet. I can now look up the lyrics that always sounded so strange. Admittedly some of the songs do actually have strange lyrics, but more often than not I simply heard them incorrectly every time I listened to the song.

LOL! The first one Freud would have a good time analyzing! The second one was just bizarre.

The cutest misheard “lyrics” that I ever heard of was the little girl who insisted, vehemently, that God’s name was Harold.

Every Sunday the whole congregation would say the Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Harold be thy name…

The actual words:
Spoiler:
Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name…
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

I always thought John was saying "I buried Paul". I was floored when I found out he was saying "cranberry sauce". As for Hendrix, I had no idea what he was singing in most of that song.

When I was about 13 to 14 years old I used to crawl up and down the lounge rubbing my forehead on the carpet. For a period of about 9 months I had a permanent friction scab right in the middle of my forehead.

To this day I couldn't tell you why I used to do it.

In my early teenage, I heard my friend singing the national anthem of Canada in a school competition. She was singing "O Canada.. we stand on cars or freeze." I took it for granted as it is so cold there.

It was only many years after when I read the lyrics of this anthem and found it to be "O Canada.. we stand on guard for thee.."
