However, the narrower screen isn't an problem with the Kindle reader, since it stops trying to justify text when the line length gets too short to do it well.
Have you considered using it in the Landscape mode?

Perhaps we should move the discussion about Yotaphone tips and tricks to another thread, somewhere in the Android Devices subforum
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=225

I have ordered one as well and I am doing research in advance.

There is lots of info on the xda-developers site, including links to the official firmware updater and newest firmware versions. There are also discussions about relative merits of various firmware versions - KiteKat vs. Lollipop, special apps and other goodies.

You do not have to use the build-in app for reading the books, you can also use your favorite Android app and switch on display mirroring. But when you do that, you should modify a config file telling Yotaphone to switch on 16shades graphics instead of default B/W for mirroring mode for that particular app.
16 shade mode has refresh frequency 2Hz and B/W has 8Hz

Very nice packaging. I think mine was intended for the Japanese or Chinese market. But there are English instructions in there, and I could select English (UK) when starting up the phone.

I'm currently still working on getting the Android phone bits working - syncing between google and icloud is less seemless than I'd hoped. It looks like I might need to get some third-party apps.

The built-in ebook reader for the e0ink display looks a bit primative so far - only one font, and no selection of justification on/of, line height, margins, etc.
amazing packaging indeed, i do not have the courage to throw it away, it remember me the container for jewels that one could unfold.

the inbuilt ebook reader is for energetic spare.
Please consider an important point, one thing is to use the mirrored screen( spare battery but not optimized) and the yotaphone inbuilt one that allows literally days of use. the inbuilt ereader is to use the phone in this second mode, no animations, no options, only reading, and I guess you can active yotaphone spare mode, that adds days, and disconnect internet with interval of 15 minutes or so to retrieve emails

Completely different concept, I know the eink cover, both for android and the model used for ios. they do not allow as far as I know to use animations, to press the eink surface, they just mirror the screen. But maybe I am wrong, I speak for the review i saw. Yotaphone looks to me much more complete, touching the display is important. Also I am not sure about their performance compared to yotaphone, from the review they looks quite sluggish

EDIT
when the phone will die will come in more o less few months the yp3, with bigger screen, but a price rumor says of > 500 bucks. Also the options are two, or we will find another YP2, or... and is what I hope, companies will start to scale up the idea, and we are pioniers on that...Is not a niche market!! ereaders are a niche markets, yotaphone is a phone that does not give battery problems, the secondary effect is ereader. plus guys try to personalize the cover is addictive.. and fashion. I cannot deny that when I go to meetings and i put the phone on the eink always on screen( another huge not niche feature) every body peek my phone and show admiration for such a smart tecnology. Also now yp is not only Russian anymore but Chinese...the only factor they had losses was that in europe and US was not advertised enough. In US was not available at all if I well recall
here yotaphone 3, the leaks are spectacular http://www.notebookcheck.com/Yotapho....179796.0.html

EDIT 2
definitive ereader. Please exterminator, exterminator friend, I am saying definitive is the combination YP2+fast charger loader bank+ samsung s2 tab 8 inches and I would add sync book, pages, highlights feature with FB reader, Moon+ or Mantano with dropbox/google drive/cloud solution. The small screen is not an issue in landscape mode, and if you read pdf, mantano ezpdf reader and xodo do a magnificent reflow work.

Said that please guys consider we are speaking of a 442 ppi amoled screen of 5 inches screen from the other side.

Please take care of the eink screen it scratches really easily

One nice touch I discovered yesterday. I tried out the camera. I didn't understand why the subjects were so amused by having their photo taken, until I found that when the camera's active, the E-ink screen says "SMILE" in big friendly letters!

Found a slight downer with the wireless charging: it will only work if the back (the eink side) is the side on the wireless charger. If you put it front screen down, it will not charge.

This is a shame, as all the notifications are shown on the eink on the back. It's not a major problem, but it a minor annoyance, as I was hoping that the eink display would replace my bed side clock. Ho hum!

Bother! I dropped my phone on some gravel, and the LCD screen has shattered.

The official repair price is more than the cost of a new phone, so I have another on order. And a silicone bumper case...

Does anyone know of a cheap way to replace the front glass? It seems a shame to just throw the broken one away.

Oh - and I just noticed that the Yotaphone 2 can be charged wirelessly. So I've just ordered a wireless charging plate from Amazon (Nokia DT-601 - 'Used/Very good, fulfilled by Amazon) for just £4.99!

Being able to just put it on my bedside table and get it topped up every night is an unexpected bonus. If it works well.
Now you made this even better, and I was holding back! I've been using wireless charging ever since I got my Lumia 920 and wouldn't want anything else anymore

Drat, that's a nuisance . I guess one of the issues with a double-faced phone is that it's difficult to keep it in a case.

I have the silicone case - it add grip to an otherwise slippy phone. It came with two front screen protectors, but nothing for the back. The upside is that I feel safer for it being there, and the added grip is just reassuring.

Unfortunately, my case is shiny, which is really distracting when using the back of the phone which is just matte. However, until I find a matte case, this one is staying. I've broken one phone recently because I was careless when I didn't have a case.

After using the phone over the weekend, I am puzzled by the performance of the chip in the phone - I'm coming from an LG G3, which is a phone of comparable specs (in fact, the Yotaphone just edges it out), however, the animations I find can stutter quite badly when on my LG G3, I get no such issues with the same software, it's as if the chip is a far lower spec. I assume there must be some extreme throttling occurring. Perhaps it will improve with a newer firmware update.

On a plus point, I used Squid to write out some notes, and then sent it to the rear screen. I was then able to just use the written notes as my reference without having the glare of an lcd/oled screen distracting me.

Previously when I've done thing, I've typed out notes and then sent it to my kindle to do the same job. However, this phone just makes the whole process slick and simple. I didn't even type - I wrote with my finger, so two thumbs up from me for making this

I was very sad.

And I managed (in a separate incident) to trip and scrape one knee and one hand. All in all, not a good weekend!

I am wondering whether it would be possible to use the broekn phone with a screen protector over the shattered glass. Or to remove the shattered glass and use it without the top layer at all.

But I think I've read that the top glass is bonded to the LCD.

I shall wait a few days before I experiment.

I think as it is an Amoled screen( possibly same wholesalers than samsung), it will be really expensive. What I suggest you is to think over if you want a new one or you think the bigger(allegedly) yp3 could conquer you more. It is said that it is going to cost 500 bucks, or you do not want a phone like that anymore. If you instead are oriented, buy immediately a second one, still the price is quite affordable, sometimes I have nuisance with bills, fines, unforeseen expenses, you just do it, and everythink will turn bright again
Anyway Pdurrant let's rejoice, after years of cables and multidevices, time finally came and hopefully in one year everyone is going to have ONE and only one device that really fits every need

Good luck bookwormer.

I can't go back to my six inches ereader because of the processor, waiting for a pdf to load, when it blocks, when I am frustrated to switch between books( i read technical papers) because was taking ages, with yp2 all super fast, and plus i love i can see if somebody is looking for me with sms in real time.
I think the difference between LG G3 and YP2 is in the bloatware sw. Much more background services, notifications, syncadapters( i speak technical to you cause you are a coder) on LG than Yota. Also the screen is 5,5 on LG3, so possibly to give you the 515 ppi needs more processor power than on the YP2, but all in all I have to say that although the definition is bigger on LG, possibly you read better on the sun the YP2 because of the Amoled vs Ips just hope the next YP3 will have a 5,5 eink screen
