i usually eat alone. that is the time that i also devote to reading. it helps a lot to put the reader on a stand.

I don't think anyone is saying they are not cognitively similar, just that reading is the wrong verb for audiobooks, unless you are the narrator of course.

Saying you're injecting your lunch is going to get you into rehab pretty quick though. |

TPN isn't typically given in boluses that way, so it wouldn't make sense. PEG tube feedings are, however, and yes I hear people with tubes speaking of having breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The main difference between listening and reading is that with listening you are out of control. You will always be potentially hindered by the one speaking concerning speed, and to some extent accent. Here is a interesting (non scientific) question/article on quora ( Why is it easier to comprehend a foreign language than to speak it? ): To sum it up in a nutshell: Quote:

Reading while eating no problem. I bought an adjustable tablet cover from Best Buy that holds the inkBOOK fairly well and it has places in the base to insert the holder of the device.
With the inkBOOK having a totally closed top and buttons to change pages, I don't have to worry too much about spatters, crumbs, and greasy fingers. Greasy fingers will clean off with any good spray made for lenses. Telescope, eyeglass, they work. I like to lay on the floor on my stomach to eat. I can see which cat is coming from where to try snagging food. |

Certainly if I've seen an TV/movie adaptation of a book, even a really good and faithful one, I wouldn't say I've read it. But if I listened to the unabridged audiobook, I think I can say I read it, without much reservation. I think reading and listening are fairly equivalent if your listening comprehension is on par with reading comprehension, which is probably not the case for most people, as listening is NOT easy. Now: if Mary read Anna Karenina in translation and Maria listened to it in Russian, who came closer to having "read" the book? If you asked Tolstoi, whom would he pick? Probably Maria. |

But yes, naturally, I'd like 48 hours in my day. That way I can still watch TV (still so many series on Netflix I want to see!), play my games (still so many games on my To-Do list!) and read all the books I want (still so many books on my To-Do list!). And have time left to play and cuddle with the cats and husband (yes, in that order!) |
