i usually eat alone. that is the time that i also devote to reading. it helps a lot to put the reader on a stand.

That is because of how our society is arranged, and to be honest, I hate it. Because of work, I have to pause my daily life for at least 10 hours a day.

Spoiler:

You can only use money to buy the things you need. You even need money if you don't want to buy anything, if only to be able to live somewhere.

Most people have to try and get money from those who already have it: rich people, or companies. For most, the only way to do that is to provide skills that those rich people/companies need, and society is arranged so that you need to work for 8 hours to be able to live a decent life. Even if you earn a huge amount of money and could get by with working for only 20 or even 10 hours, most jobs are laid out in such a way that this isn't possible.

Somewhere in the not too distant future, there will be problems. More and more jobs are now filled by automating them. At some point, it's impossible for everyone to keep working; there just isn't enough work left to do, and the work that *is* left will be so high level that only people with at least a Bachelor degree will be able to do it.... and it seems that only 25% of the people have the capability to attain such a degree. (In the Netherlands.)

I don't think anyone is saying they are not cognitively similar, just that reading is the wrong verb for audiobooks, unless you are the narrator of course.

You can call IV Nutrients a lunch if you like, as long as you don't say you're eating your lunch.
Saying you're injecting your lunch is going to get you into rehab pretty quick though.

TPN isn't typically given in boluses that way, so it wouldn't make sense. PEG tube feedings are, however, and yes I hear people with tubes speaking of having breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I know people who drink their lunch. They end up in rehab as well.

That there should have been hint enough to stop convincing you to go ahead and try audiobooks.

The main difference between listening and reading is that with listening you are out of control. You will always be potentially hindered by the one speaking concerning speed, and to some extent accent.
Here is a interesting (non scientific) question/article on quora ( Why is it easier to comprehend a foreign language than to speak it? ):

To sum it up in a nutshell:
Quote:
For example, listening is the only modality in which you're not fully in control over the speed of the language, and is the only time you're at the mercy of accents. There are plenty of ways to practice reading at all sorts of levels, but with listening, beyond very elementary educational clips, you're more or less thrust into They're-All-Speaking-So-Quickly-Please-Tell-Me-This-Isn't-The-Language-I've-Been-Studying-Forever Land.
Accent doesn't only apply to non native listeners, though. Just imagine a call center located somewhere else (e.g. India) reads a book to you. What a pleasure would that be? How much would you be able to comprehend?

Reading while eating no problem. I bought an adjustable tablet cover from Best Buy that holds the inkBOOK fairly well and it has places in the base to insert the holder of the device.

With the inkBOOK having a totally closed top and buttons to change pages, I don't have to worry too much about spatters, crumbs, and greasy fingers. Greasy fingers will clean off with any good spray made for lenses. Telescope, eyeglass, they work.

I like to lay on the floor on my stomach to eat. I can see which cat is coming from where to try snagging food.

I guess there are degrees of fidelity.

Certainly if I've seen an TV/movie adaptation of a book, even a really good and faithful one, I wouldn't say I've read it. But if I listened to the unabridged audiobook, I think I can say I read it, without much reservation. I think reading and listening are fairly equivalent if your listening comprehension is on par with reading comprehension, which is probably not the case for most people, as listening is NOT easy.

Now: if Mary read Anna Karenina in translation and Maria listened to it in Russian, who came closer to having "read" the book? If you asked Tolstoi, whom would he pick? Probably Maria.

I do that too! When I wake up, I have to get out of bed within 10 minutes, unless I have a good book I want to read, while my husband (who I know is awake!) will stay in bed at least an hour longer!

But yes, naturally, I'd like 48 hours in my day. That way I can still watch TV (still so many series on Netflix I want to see!), play my games (still so many games on my To-Do list!) and read all the books I want (still so many books on my To-Do list!). And have time left to play and cuddle with the cats and husband (yes, in that order!)
