I used to read several books at a time on my ereader, but I have gone back to primarily reading print books. I am reading several print books simultaneously, but only 1 ebook.
Most of my reading is nonfiction and I have found that, for me, reading nonfiction of the type I read (heavy on the footnotes and endnotes -- not the self-help or celebrity bio types books) on the ereader is not enjoyable. Print still works better. |

I've answered one, because normally, I read only one full length book at a time.
I do have several short story compilations going, but I didn't include these as I don't count them as books per se. I read a story if I want something to read, but don't feel like reading my current book, for whatever reason. Sometimes I just want to read something from beginning to end in a short time, and that's not really possible with a 500 page long book. |

I voted three. I like to have a choice of three (You know: As in tricycle), but a handful of five's what I have going on at the moment. Or did until yesterday. Two of the ebooks I put on hold so I could finish the MBC's selection for this month. I still have two audiobooks going, although one is going faster than the other, partially because that one's from Audible and is available (and synced) on pretty much every audio playing device I own. The other is a Librivox offering.

I suppose if I didn't count the collections of short stories (as you do), then that might knock my count off by 3 or 4 titles. ![]() |

Even just a few years ago, I was still only reading one at a time. I started reading two at a time so I'd have a choice whenever I read and not feel so "locked into" any one book (I read quite a few longer books and I'm the kind that almost always eventually finishes a book once I start). However, I usually still just finish one then start on the other even though I'm technically reading two. Sometimes though I do switch back and forth between the two.
Then I also began listening to audiobooks. As I listen to these at different times than when I look at and read a book, it has to be a different book. So, generally three - one audiobook and two regular books. |

I never read one book at a time. Usually 3 at a minimum (fiction, nonfiction, audio). Currently I have 4 nonfiction, 2 fiction and 1 audiobook.

Most of the time just a single book but if a library book I have been waiting for gets in (and I am not already reading a library book) or a new book by a favorite author gets released I will read them first and then come back to the first book.
I will also read short stories sometimes in the middle of a book but that isn't too common, it normally happens between books. |

It's not unusual for me to have four books on the go.
I am normally reading something brainy (currently: Sapiens by Yuval Harari, 2011), and something from the golden age of of detection (currently: Going, Going, Gone by Phoebe Taylor, 1943), something from an earlier era, often public domain (currently: For the Pleasure of His Company by George Stoddard, 1903) and finally something I can dip into for a chapter or two, like detective short stories (currently: R Holmes & Co by John Bangs, 1906). One of these titles might be supplanted by something more recent (last finished: The Rainaldi Quartet by Paul Adam, 2004). Most of what I read fits broadly into mystery / detective category. I read absolutely everything as an ebook, usually an epub. My favourite current tablet ereader app UB Reader. |

Mwehehe... don't remind me
![]() Back in the day, around 15 years ago, I sometimes played the Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 and/or Icewind Dale 1 & 2 games at the same time. Similar? Well... - All based on the same Infinity Engine - All based on (essentially) the same rulesets - All with the same gameplay - All had the same graphics style - All with the same interface, but not all with the same functionality. It happened more than once that I was looking for an in-game item or quest that wasn't actually in that game... ![]() |

I didn't count short stories either. Just like Asimov magazine, you usually don't read them all the way through - just bits and pieces. I have one book of short fiction that took me over a year to read - I just read them when I was on hold or waiting for the car to be fixed and such.

I generally have 1 on each e-reader (T2 and PW2) and 1-2 going in the Kindle and iBooks apps on my i-Devices.
Currently only 4, but I've had 6-7 going at once. And that's not counting long articles I've saved in my browser. |

My default position is one. At the moment I'm reading four books, but one's an ebook autobiography, one's an audio book, one's a pbook on poetry, and one's a pbook novella by a celebrity. So I guess my answer to the op's question is: one.

I always have a "spare" book on my phone for times in lines then I have one paper book for work and then I have my ereader books at home.
So I went with 3. |
