It's one of the things I don't like about the Kindle either. It skips (at least) the cover. I, for one, take a look at the cover of a book (if it shows something of interest) at the same way I'd look at a picture. It's the one thing I'd like to have a color reader for (and illustrations, of course). I also flip through the front matter, and read any introductions. I also like encountering an inline TOC.

I know, I book could just be text and an internal TOC and nothing else. I have some books that are actually like that; even from the big publishing houses. I do, however, feel that a 'proper' book should have a nice cover, front matter, back matter, and a TOC.

It's more an aesthetic consideration than a functional one.

That doesn't make any sense. Imagine a paper book. You pick it off the shelf and you open it. Do you see the cover? No. You only see the cover before you open the book. And if you want to see it again you have to close the book to see the cover (ebook equivalent would be to go to navigation and select cover page). On hardcover books I don't read with the cover - it is the first thing that gets tossed back on the shelf and reading is done then without the cover.

But I agree, the ereader should have on option to look at the cover in larger size BEFORE opening the book.

When I pick up a pBook, I see the cover. When I start an eBook, I want to see the cover. I know if I let the H2O go to sleep, I'll also see the cover when I go to wake it up or close the cover Also, when I see the book on the home screen, I want to see the cover. I cannot stand the generic cover a lot of eBook use.

These generic covers are one of the reason I think the price for eBooks needs to drop. Why are we paying the same or more for an eBook when we don't always get the same content? Yes, the cover counts as content and a generic cover doesn't count for anything.

How do you explain the appearance of the open dyslexic font in the last update? They developed Bookerly to please non dyslexic readers. And now they added an accessibility feature for dyslexic people so they can enjoy reading. How many paper books have that option? Jeff is chosing by priority. Apparently there is more dyslexic people out there than those few like you that need more control over fonts. Aren't you happy with your Kobo?

Hi Jon.
Please tell me that you do not give Jeff any money.
I am afraid your description of Jeff does not fit.
He is wealthy. I have never once heard him describe himself as important or having power or famous. Therefore, no delusions so the term does not fit.
Now I do know a megalomaniac. He is always inflating himself. I am surprised that he hasn't blown up yet.

Agreed. You have an example of a generic cover? I have not run across any book I read without a real cover. Maybe because I usually don't even consider an ugly looking book in the store no matter who wrote it. If the cover looks like crap, it is not even worth looking at the title or blurp. That is just me, I guess.
