I have a PW2 and never got this update. Im debating manually updating but don't want to screw up my jailbreak and haven't seen a direct answer of what happens when you upgrade a jailbroken kindle

Assuming your Jailbreak is relatively recent (JB 1.13.N) and thus contains the "gandalf" component, the jailbreak survives the upgrade intact.
If not, you will need to use the hotfix.

This is all explained in NiLuJe's jailbreak thread -- the one where you downloaded the jailbreak to begin with.

I'll look for that thanks. It's been such a long time that it's hard remembering where to find everything. I'm not a daily user on this forum. I did find out i had the "backdoor lock" on which is why i didn't get the OTA update. But it doesn't sound like people are all that happy with it. The only thing I even liked about it was that it was a more graphical homepage (mostly useless ads and crap though) and that they removed the "personal" box from documents. that's it.

Doesn't one HAVE to get this update, in order for any over-the-air traffic to work? Or is that not actually true? I thought this was an update because amazon was changing some deep deep underlying code, and no over-the-air traffic would work after they did that?

I just got my PW3 today. Found the New Front page Distracting

Course the idea is to get you to buy more ebooks

Just go into Settings & set it up the way you want. Don't forget to turn Off the Recommendations. Now all I see is the ribbon on the bottom with the adv.

Someone in the KBoards forum just posted that they received a reply from Kindle Support to their complaint about the new light font on their Voyage home screen and about the missing dots. The reply said that the dots would be back with the next update and that there would be a way to modify fonts on the home page.

I should have paid attention to who posted this and I didn't so I can't say how reliable it is but in general the posts on KBoards do tend to be honest. I sure hope this one is.

That was crebel. Long time KB poster and also a friend of mine. Also very reliable.

Interesting to see there is a update now to the PW. 5.7.3.1
Nothing for the Voyage so I don't know what it is, or if it just other bug fixes. Anyone tried? I don't have a new PW to test on.

eta: I asked crebel as she is not a member here if its ok to post the Amazon CS part of her post. She said it is.

I just installed 5.7.3.1 on my PW 3 and I can't see any difference. There are no dots and I wasn't able to find a way to turn them on. Also no additional controls for the home screen font. It's possible I just don't know where to look but I suspect I'd have found it if it was there.

It's also possible that the NEXT (or some subsequent) update is the one which will give back our dots. Still hoping .... (Specially since you said this update is for PW only, and I have a Voyage)

Yep! I haven't given up on getting the dots back. There have been a lot of complaints about that all over the place and I won't be surprised if Amazon reverses that.
