Well if it's worth it to you, that's all that matters. I mostly get mine from libraries, or whispersync titles for $3.99. The Audible books are excellent quality, but I can't afford the membership. We have too much month at the end of the money, as the song goes.

I earn mine each month with Swagbucks. You can get PayPal Gift Cards as well as Amazon Gift Cards. My CC is tied to my Paypal account. I pay with that. Swagbucks pays for all my books and subs. It also pays for toilet paper and Nexium.

170 PPI is horrible for reading. No wonder you can't stand to read on your tablet for long. 359 PPI should be excellent as long and they also didn't skimp on text rendering. Make sure to test the view angle too. That is the most important thing on a tablet. A horrible view angle will make a tablet useless.

Where do you find out the text rendering info? I've searched, but can't find any reference to it.

Unfortunately , you need to see one in person for that unless you know someone personally who can vouch for it.

I have a one year subscription from Smashwords. I may actually get some use out of it now.

Scribd just updated their IOS app to include the audiobooks. Haven't tried it yet. Requires IOS 7 or later. Yeah! I am part way into a three month trial.

Just tried it. One very serious fault so far is the app closes/crashes at the end of a chapter. Tried it with a couple of chapters. Need to try another book. I was using the streaming. Am downloading a book onto my iPad mini to see if it does that when a book is on the device. Download is taking forever and I have fairly fast internet. Audible is swift compared to this. Didn't Booklover have issues too with the android app? Hope they fix them.

Second book streamed also jumped out of app at end of chapters. The downloaded book didn't, continuing into the next chapter just fine. So guess downloading is the answer for now.

The app doesn't close for me, it just pauses at the chapter break. Until I wake the device and then it will start again.

Downloading or streaming, same thing.

As for downloading, sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. Sometimes it's super slow, sometimes it's not. I've sent them the log file they requested. I haven't tried the audio books on a tablet, yet, but I will try it out just to see what happens.

At this point, if the library has it, I'll get it there. Scribd does have some audio books not available at my libraries, though.

I've tried streaming since I've been listening at home, and it's been hit-or-miss. Yesterday was especially annoying; every few chapters the audio would just stop and not resume. Sometimes I'd eventually get an error message to reload the page; sometimes that would fix it, but most of the time it didn't, at least not right away--I'd have to make multiple attempts. Luckily it would resume at the correct chapter, and it never stopped in the middle of a chapter.

I should've just downloaded to my phone, but I kept thinking that the streaming issue would resolve before I got everything set up. Hah!

Scribd finally added audiobooks to it's iOS app.

but it's really not compatible with Gingerbread the audiobook part of the app. It crashes the app when you play an audiobook.

I'm having the same issue that others are experiencing with the iOS app. Playback stops when it comes to the end of a chapter. Also, twice now I've opened the app to find myself all the way back at the start of the book. Never had these issues with the Android app.

Yeah the book part works just not the audio. Scribd said they are working on it but that was days ago must not be easily fixed.

My issue with Scribd audio books may well be due to my device. I downloaded Overdrive and a book yesterday. The book is divided into parts. At the end of each part, the book pauses until I wake up the screen, just as Scribd books do at the end of each chapter.

I am going to try to snag another phone during the BF sales, if I can get one on line. The Kyocera Vibe or the LG Volt.
