I really don't understand why they deliberately designed it that way. Not only can the K4PC not access documents in the archives, but we can't even "deliver" them to it via the website. Nor can they be emailed to it. I just don't see the point of restricting only the PC version.

Maybe I'm not understanding something. Can't you download the book file to your PC and then manually put it in the K4PC/K4Mac folder? (On the PC I think it's something like My Kindle Content, and it's inside the Documents folder.) I copy books to K4PC all the time. Not that I often read them on my PC, but sometimes. And a fair number of my books come from non-Amazon sources. (Baen, Kobo coupons, the Library, etc.)

And they can't be "downloaded" to your computer from the website either. Only real Amazon books can. The action button for non-amazon books only has 2 options: "delete from library" and "deliver to my..." And the deliver option only allows you to choose a kindle device or mobile app. Not the K4PC or K4Mac version. So the only way to get a non-amazon book into the PC/Mac version is by side-loading. And side-loaded books aren't supported by Whispersync. |

Wait a minute, I think I have a solution! At least I think I do. LOL It almost seems a little too easy. Surely one if us would've thought of it already?
We know that once a non-amazon file passes through the server, it gets 'coded' for Whispersync. And these files don't have DRM, correct? So they aren't restricted to a specific kindle, right? So then what if we plug the Kindle device (that already has the 'whispersync supported' file) into the computer and grab that file from the device and manually drag it into the K4PC/K4Mac folder? As long as the file passed through Amazon's server, it shouldn't really matter how it gets into K4PC/K4Mac, as long as it was coded. Right? It seems so simple that I feel like I must be forgetting something. Like suddenly thinking you can time-travel, and then realizing you don't have a Flux Capacitor, LoL. ![]() If that's the case, please forgive my lapse of brain function! I don't have K4PC anymore, so I can't test it. Can someone try it and see if it works? Just copy the converted file from the device and drag it into K4PC and let us know if it syncs. |

Yes, that's what I have always done for those rare occasions when I want a book to sync reading location with Kindle for PC (I only use the PC for some non-fiction books).

It doesn't work always
I have problems with O'Reilly books, they don't sync between devices sometimes |
