You have advantages with an e-ink reader when it comes to reading outside and the battery lasting longer but an LCD e-reader is just a crippled tablet. There can be restrictions when it comes to the apps market or it can be just about having lower RAM and processing power.

I can't agree more. If I want audio I can get an audio book and listen to it on my mp3 player. If I want a video I can watch a DVD on my TV or computer. If I want interactive programmes that provides birdsong for recognising birds or for language learning I'll get the appropriate software and do it on my computer (or tablet).

When I read on my ebook reader, it is for its convenience. Light to carry, battery lasts for ages, paper-like screen that I use in bright rooms, have a whole library of books on me without having to lug around a whole case of paper books.

As for convergence of the ebook reader and the tablet, I think that will happen when we have good color e-ink screens. At the present, I prefer to keep my reading on an ebook reader and all the rest (Internet surfing, listening to audio and watching video) on the tablet or computer.
