This is almost exactly how I feel. As I said in the original post, I love the new cover....the super thin front is just fine as it still protects. Also, when you bend it back behind for reading, it almost disappears.

The leather definitely doesn't scream "look I am leather" like the K3 cover did but I am fine with that.

As others have said, comparing the cost of the cover to the cost of the device is just silly. Compare the cost of the cover to what you get for it.
Kudos to the one who said that you should buy the non-special offer Kindle if you are concerned with Kindle to cover price ratios.

I also have an M-edge cover (Go jacket) and light for my KT. When folded down, the light is longer than the case, causing it to look quite strange and cobbled together. This combo (which I will sell) cost $55.

I'm not trying to justify the $60 cost of the cover. I think many of the complaints are by those who think it's overpriced. It may be for them - but it's good value for me.

Oh and did I mention how much I love this cover
Well said and I couldn't agree more.

Got the cover, fits like a glove (kindle fits in front pants pocket) and light is plenty light enough. Well worth the cost to me.

I so very much want to have one of these, but I'd like to ask those of you who own this cover (KT/lighted) AND who do read at night, while lying down, how much of a bother the light-in-the-eyes issue is.
My wife and I both read in bed, lying on our sides, late at night, and I simply won't put up with having light shining directly into my eyes. This issue alone will prevent me from purchasing the cover, and I've heard enough about it on other forums, Amazon's for instance, to think that it may be a problem.
This is one time, maybe the first time in years, that I have wanted to go into a real bookstore to hold something in my hands FIRST before buying.
Thanks, All - Great forum!

I have noticed this. Interesting thing is it is for certain not directly in the eyes but it should just face the screen a bit more. It is the only thing that I don't like about the cover/light. Also if you have any concern with the light being bright enough...I actually wish you could turn it down a bit.

I also like to read on my side in bed, and I don't find the light bad at all. You might find it bothersome at first, but if you focus on the screen and get lost in your reading, there is not an issue.

Remember, Amazon has a very liberal return policy. Get one, and if you don't like it, return it.

I just received this case a few days ago. After reading several of the negative reviews on Amazon I was expecting to return it, but as it turns out I completely love it. It looks much more sleek and nice than the previous generation lighted cover, and thus far I haven't had any issues with the lack of a mechanism to keep it closed. Many people seem put off by the different design of the case, and feel it is made of cheaper materials when compared to the previous gen case. It definitely doesn't seem cheap to me at all. Just different.

One thing that has always baffled me about e-book readers is why they aren't designed with a front lit screen to begin with (?). Install a dozen LED lights around the screen underneath the bezel and the usability of these devices is increased greatly. Of course, one could argue that Amazon hasn't done this so they can continue to sell 60 dollar lighted cases, but none of the other e-book reader manufacturers have surprisingly never incorporated a lighting solution into the design of their readers. I can't think of any reason why this simple solution hasn't been attempted yet.

Also, I have to say, I don't find 60 dollars for this cover that outrageous of a price. I'm willing to pay 30-40 bucks for a nice non-lighted case, and I would have to pay an additional 10-15 dollars at least for a decent light... so that's 45-50 dollars right there. So, basically you are paying 10-15 dollars for the convenience of having the light installed into the case, not to mention the sleek form factor of an Amazon designed product. And I'm okay with that.

I have the lighted cover for the Baby Kindle or Kindle No-Touch and only thing that dissapointed me was the ugly color (made the mistake of ordering the Olive green). And that it's just way too smooth, especially the back. It makes the cover slippery and hard to hold. That's why when I bought the Touch I didn't buy the lighted cover for the Touch. Had they made it with a bit more texture so it wouldn't be so slippery, I would love the lighted cover..but for now I have opted for a non-lighted one, the Marware Atlas pink and with that I will use the Mighty Bright Xtra Flex 2 reading light if I need a light.

Here's my opinion: I bought one and I love the light, but I can't stand the super thin cover. It looks cheap and feels like cardboard. I've been wondering if I cut off the front cover, would my Touch with the lighted Kindle cover back fit in an Oberon cover?

My SIL received a Nook Touch for Christmas, and that cover feels like cardboard as well. I was not impressed.

I do like the fact that they've replaced the "On" slider with a push button on the Touch. Makes it easier to read while it's charging. On my K3, the slider is right beside the USB slot and is always getting in the way on the cord. I usually grab a toothpick or something to operate the slider when the K3 is plugged in, because my fingers are just too large.

No. I use the light frequently and have not noticed any increased drain of the battery. It's negligible.
