Well, Rowling herself acknowledges religious elements in the books, so to call it a twist at this point isn't entirely accurate.

"To me [the religious parallels have] always been obvious," she said. "But I never wanted to talk too openly about it because I thought it might show people who just wanted the story where we were going."

She's firmly in the "no spoilers" camp: another reason to love her dearly!

The beauty of literature is that there can be multiple, entwined -- or even deviating -- themes in long tomes such as HP. You can ignore the Christian allusion if you like, and it won't detract from the story at all. There is still much to be gleaned from the books.
