If you haven't been buying these one by one, here's a collection of three Perry Mason books by Erle Stanley Gardner for $4.99. These are Mysterious Press/Open Road, so go on sale a lot, but eReaderIQ hasn't seen this collection for less, and if you need all three, the price works out to $1.67, which is less than the $1.99 they tend to go on sale for individually, so I'm posting. Probably not a great deal if you have even one of them though.

The Perry Mason Mysteries Volume One contains The Case of the Lazy Lover, The Case of the Lonely Heiress, and The Case of the Dubious Bridegroom.

I tend to like mysteries with an archeological or anthropological slant, and Dana Cameron's Emma Fielding series, published in the early 2000s, fits the bill. I read these in DTB and liked them, but they don't go on sale very often in ebook in the US.

Now however, here's the second book in the series, Grave Consequences, on sale for $1.99/£1.99 in the US/UK, and discountable at Kobo. And the rest of the series is also only £2.49 in the UK, except for the first, which is £7.99. (An odd marketing decision, to have the first be full-price, but that's not my job...)

Spoiler:
Quote:
An American archaeologist digs up murder and intrigue at a twelfth-century English abbey in this mystery by the Agatha Award–winning author of Site Unseen.

Archaeologist Emma Fielding is beginning to doubt the wisdom of spending her summer vacation in England helping friends excavate a 12th-century abbey, especially after they uncover an all-too modern skeleton in the nearby medieval graveyard. But it’s the second discovery—of a murdered graduate student recently missing from the dig—that suggests to Emma that Marchester isn’t exactly the quiet riverside town it appears to be. And when a member of the town’s neopagan community shows up, claiming that the site is a sacred spot for Wiccans, Emma knows that conflicting interests and intentions may have driven someone to murder. There are dark passions and lethal secrets buried here, heinous crimes that shake the conflicted community to its core, and it’s up to Emma, an outsider far from home, to delve into a past that too many people—including her friends—would do anything to hide.

Perry Mason Mysteries Volume One link took me to the Amazon.ca site where it is decidedly NOT on sale. :-( Price was one penny short of $32 -- all I can say is it's a very good thing I'm not in a big hurry to read the darned thing. Usually there's only a 2 or 3 dollar price difference to allow for currency exchange, so I was expecting maybe it'd be around $7.99 Canadian or thereabouts. $31.99? Thanks but no thanks!

Still mostly free today. And is it crazy that I ‘bought’ all of them in every format? Even though I know I’ll possibly never read any of them?

Fire, Burn! by John Dickson Carr is $1 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US

Quote:
Hurled back in time, a London police detective struggles to solve a nineteenth-century murder mystery in Golden Age master John Dickson Carr’s thrilling mystery novel

A woman is killed in a well-lit corridor, dying before the eyes of three witnesses who, impossibly, detect no foul play. For more than a century, this baffling murder lies cold in the files of Scotland Yard until it is discovered by Detective-Superintendent John Cheviot, who yearns to apply modern scientific policing to the grisly old case. He is about to get his chance.

Taking a cab to Scotland Yard, Cheviot steps out in front of Old Scotland Yard and sees a beautiful woman beckoning him. Suddenly it is 1829 and Cheviot is a member of the newly organized London police force. He might now have an opportunity to solve the most puzzling murder in the Yard’s history, but in a time before fingerprints and ballistic analysis, he will find police work to be far more baffling and brutal than he is used to.

Today's Big Deal at Kindle UK is fifteen crime, thriller and mystery books for £0.99.* *That's too many for me to list, but there's a link to the webpage for the deal at the end of this post.* * I don't recognize very many of the authors, but YMMV...

Almost all Open Road/Mysterious books go on sale a lot in the US, but much much less often in the UK or Canada. And since you're in Canada, I suspect the US link took you to the Kindle Canada store - the link is definitely for the US Kindle store. Bummer that it wasn't on sale there!

The Resistance Man is the sixth in Martin Walker's Bruno/Dordogne series. It's £0.99 at Kindle UK right now.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00B83PO3Q

Quote:
In the small town of St Denis, Bruno, can't get a moment's rest. Some rare bank notes have come to light that may have links to the legendary Neuvic train robbery in 1944. The investigation is fraught with issues.

Bruno is also dealing with a wave of local burglaries, which have brought his old flame, Isabelle - and their complicated history - back to the town.

Worse is to come. Tasked with piecing together these past crimes, Bruno now finds he has the more pressing matter of a body on his hands. He must now trace the links between past and present to restore peace in his beloved town of St Denis.

If you missed Dear Mr. Holmes: Seven Holmes on the Range Mysteries, by Steve Hockensmith when it was free a few times, a few years ago, it's now on sale for $0.99/£0.99 at Kindle US/UK. Note this appears to be a new edition with a different publisher, whereas the previous one looked kind of self-published. So check carefully before you buy. (But the short stories are good either way.)

Spoiler:
Big Red and Old Red Amlingmeyer have starred in five "Holmes on the Range" novels, rustling up award nominations and fans aplenty as they cracked mysteries using the methods of their hero, Sherlock Holmes. How did these Old West drifters first discover Holmes, though? What were they doing before their novel adventures began? And how did their early, awkward stabs at "deducifying" turn out? These seven short stories provide the answers.

In "Dear Mr. Holmes," Old Red first gets the itch to turn detective -- and just in time, too, because a killer's stalking him and his brother along a Kansas cattle trail. In "Gustav Amlingmeyer, Holmes of the Range," Old Red's attempt to settle down and open his own "cafay" goes haywire when one of the customers gets a side order of arsenic with his steak and potatoes. In "Wolves in Winter," Big Red and Old Red go up against deadly predators of both the two- and four-legged variety. And the adventure continues in four more stories (most of them originally published in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine).

Quote:
Hell hath no fury like a feline enraged. Though Joe Grey and Dulcie are merely housecats, they each have a strong sense of justice—to complement their uncanny ability to read, speak, and use the telephone. And they’re furious that Max Harper, police chief of Molena Point and preferred target for Joe’s harmless pranks, has been accused of a gruesome double murder.

The fleet-footed sleuthing duo is intent upon restoring an old friend’s good name. But finding the missing little girl who was sole witness to the crime won’t be easy—especially with a hungry cougar on the prowl, a cat-killer on the loose . . . and the kittenish antics of Joe and Dulcie’s playful new “ward” causing big trouble that could take more than nine lives to survive.

The Cage by Bonnie Kistler is $2 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US.

Quote:
On a cold, misty Sunday night, two women are alone in the offices of fashion conglomerate Claudine de Martineau International. One is the company’s human resources director. Impeccably dressed and perfectly coiffed, she sits at her desk and stares somberly out the window. Down the hall, her colleague, one of the company’s lawyers, is buried under a pile of paperwork, frantically rushing to finish.

Leaving at the same time, the two women, each preoccupied by her own thoughts, enter the elevator that will take them down from the 30th floor.

When they arrive at the lobby, one of the women is dead. Was it murder or suicide?

An incredibly original novel that turns the office thriller on its head, The Cage is a wild ride that begins with a bang and picks up speed as it races to its dramatic end.
