Just installed the plugin and I would like to know if I do this ( Titles with the format: SeriesName - SeriesNumber - Title ) will it also change the titles in my Calibre Library?

Thanks for your help Nyn. Now let me ask you another dumb question, does the plugin add/delete books from the Kindle?

The plugin does not modify the books on your Kindle in any way. It only modifies the list of collections on the Kindle, and these can be restored from a backup copy if needed.
The plugin does not modify Calibre's information in any way, unless you use Import and then it only updates the data in the column you specify. |

global name 'message' is not defined
Hello All,
First Post Here! I followed the instructions for the 1.5.3 Kindle Collections Plugin with calibre, version 0.7.55 ERROR: Unhandled exception: <b>NameError</b>:global name 'message' is not defined Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre_plugins.kindle_collections.ui", line 102, in edit_kindle_collections File "calibre_plugins.kindle_collections.kindle_edit_co llections", line 66, in run File "calibre_plugins.kindle_collections.kindle_collect ions", line 23, in init File "calibre_plugins.kindle_collections.kindle_collect ions", line 33, in __init__ File "calibre_plugins.kindle_collections.kindle_collect ions", line 42, in initialize File "calibre_plugins.kindle_collections.kindle_collect ions", line 61, in check_collections NameError: global name 'message' is not defined This same error is generated no matter which of the selections I try within the plugin menu. Is this error due to a user error? I've only had my Kindle about a week so anything is possible. Thanks |

@k1951j,
Welcome to MobileRead! First - upgrade to Calibre 0.7.56. 0.7.55 had some issues that cause problems. Let me know if you still have the issue after upgrading Calibre. |

I think the error will still be there. It looks like you're triggering a bit of code I missed updating. Something is wrong with your collections file and the plugin is just warning you about it. This will be fixed in the next version of the plugin this weekend.
Can you post your system\collections.json file from your Kindle? Last edited by meme; 04-20-2011 at 04:46 PM. |

Hi, there. also a first time poster. I am also getting the same error message as k1951j. I would be happy to post my .json file from my kindle. How do I do that?

Welcome to Mobileread!
On Windows, connect your Kindle, then go to the File Manager and under Computer (or Start->Computer) click on the entry for your Kindle. At the top click in the box that show Computer -> Kindle, it will change to something like E:\ or S:\ - just add the word "system" (without quotes, e.g. S:\system) and hit Return. You should see the collections.json file on your Kindle now. In Mobileread, reply to this post, then click on the 'Go Advanced' button at the bottom of the reply box. Then click the paperclip at the top of the window to open the Manage Attachments window. Click Choose File and choose a file, then click Upload then Close Window. The file will be attached to your post now. I'd also be interested to know if you used any other programs to edit the collections besides just editing them on the Kindle. |

![]() I guess I should have told you that I have a Mac, but it's still basically the same. here's the collections file. I had to zip it because when I tried to upload it, it told me that it was an invalid file. I hope that's ok. also, I didn't use any other program besides my kindle to make my collections. the one thing I did do however was to import my collections from my K2 to my K3 through the archive when I first got my K3. Thanks so much for the help. Last edited by Sassafrass; 04-22-2011 at 08:54 AM. |

Your collections file has about 5 or 6 entries that are missing the last_access timestamp (e.g. GAMES). Its not true of all your collection entries, so I wonder if they are collections that you have not opened/accessed since creating/importing from your K2.
The plugin will warn you about this, but then add a timestamp of 0 so that you can work with your collections in the plugin, and then saves this timestamp when you save/create collections with the plugin. The warning is what causes the problem, and is now fix. Just waiting for Calibre 0.7.57 to be released (today probably), before releasing the updated plugin as it depends on that version for a new check. |

Well, I did answer one of my questions. I opened all of my collections and I no longer got the error. BUT, I was treated to a lovely new error:
calibre, version 0.7.56 ERROR: Unhandled exception: <b>AttributeError</b>:'bool' object has no attribute 'strip' Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre_plugins.kindle_collections.ui", line 83, in create_kindle_collections File "calibre_plugins.kindle_collections.create_preview ", line 56, in create_kindle_collections_main File "calibre_plugins.kindle_collections.create_preview ", line 125, in process_calibre_collections File "calibre_plugins.kindle_collections.create_preview ", line 160, in filter_collections AttributeError: 'bool' object has no attribute 'strip' |
