Just ran a downgrade and jailbreak on my KT2 kindle touch with serial 90C6 and everything was done in less than 10 mins. No problems whatsoever. Thank you very much!
Just to add: I did do the fatory reset and disabled special offers through customer service before the downgrade.

If I was to purchase a KV (UK) or the latest PW and follow these instructions would I be able to remove the left and right margins? I have a jailbroken PW3 on 5.4.3.2 but is is getting a bit tired and there are now a couple of dead pixels... the margins are the only thing putting me off buying a new one...

Update your PW3 (PW2? That is what is in your device info block) to the same firmware version the KV is running, see if the margin changes are working on that.

Then decide if you want to buy the new hardware.

There must be some 'special cases' involved.

I had great difficulty using my PW3 because it demanded I register before it would even draw the top menu on the desktop, no menu options to get to UYK. I believe you and I and others discussed that (group PM perhaps?)...

I got past that because I clicked "register" in that popup, and it took me to the "scan for wifi networks" page, and after scanning networks I was able to NOT join one (cancel or "not now" or something), and only THEN did the desktop menu work. This was a wifi-only device, and I did NOT register it. A 3G device may be more complicated -- not sure if anywhere to cancel the procedure like with I skipping joining a wifi network...

I know more complex is not better, but I think some of them may be stuck where I was, and need to be guided into how to activate the hidden desktop menu (and UYK). I probably should post this PM to the thread...

Much like the amazon online registration process itself where it makes you give a credit card number, but allows you to cancel from credit card data entry and get to your account... You must BEGIN registration but no need to complete it.

We may have pulled PW3_5.6.1.1 from distribution when the 'unable to reach UYK' problem came up.
Perhaps PW3_5.6.1.1 did not have that restriction (but it has enough other things wrong with it that I am not suggesting we start distributing it again).

I see I typed PW3. It was a PW2 that I downgraded, so the 5.6.1.1 firmware was not the issue...

Yes.
Follow the link given at the top of the first post of this thread for **prior** grayscale models.
That is, the PW1 was prior to the PW2 which is the oldest model addressed by this thread.

In that list you will find two for the PW1, depending on what version of firmware you are now running.

That jaibreak works for a range of older PW1 firmware versions, but the poster did not say which firmware version he wanted to jailbreak. If you look in the jailbreak index sticky thread, you will see that there is a special jailbreak for PW1 firmware 5.6.1.1: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=275881

The jailbreak index (linked in the first post of this thread, as mentioned by knc1 above) also contains links to jailbreaks for all other eink kindles that need a jailbreak (including this thread), plus useful information for the K1 (which needs no jailbreak).

@X91w: Just reading the instructions in the first post OR looking at the forum threads would have answered your question, instead of posting it to this non-applicable (in your case) jailbreak thread. If in doubt, read the sticky threads. If still in doubt, read the instructions in the first post. If not there, then check the master index sticky thread for your kindle model, and if that does not work, then post questions in the most relevant thread. Or better yet, start your own thread and ask your question there. That is how our forum operates with best efficiency and least wasted time and effort for those of use who provide these valuable support services for free.

Is there a secret to doing step 5 with KOA?

I've tried this from the beginning 4 times now, with no luck from 5 onwards. I put the .tar.gz from step 5 on the device, run with ';installHtml', the screen flashes, kindle splash screen comes up, but no 'you are jailbroken' book shows up and there's no new file on the device, and then I get Error 007 on step 6.

Any ideas?
