I'm mad at Amazon and Stephen King - Page 4

I must confess. I went ahead and ordered the $9 hardback. That way, when I download the darknet version, I won't feel as guilty. But I certainly won't be reading the hardcover version - too heavy to take on the train. I remember when I had to lug that Harry Potter around - sure glad I found the kindle!

I am a big Stephen King fan, buying almost all his books, and every hardcover since Pet Semetary (except The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and Duma Key (which I bought as an ebook))

I am however very disappointed that Under The Dome may not be available immediately as an official ebook. I wouldn't even mind (too much) if it came out at the same time, but at the normal hardcover full retail cost.

But not coming out at all as an ebook on the release date is unacceptable. If it is delayed, I plan on getting a pirated copy and no longer buy Stephen King books. Sorry, Steve.

But... I think nothing is set in stone yet, and hope that on November 10th a legit ebook version will be available.

It will be released on the kindle on dec 24th, but you can order a hard cover copy through amazon.com. Not sure if thats just for kindle owners or not. King wanted it released at same time, but publisher wont go for it.

Where did you see that? If it was the publisher, I am fine with buying the hardback, and illegally downloading the ebook. If it was King, I will cancel the hardback, and just go with the download, on November 10.

Publishers do *not* insist when they deal with Stephen King.
From what I have heard Stephen King gets deals no other author can dream of.

Oh, what to do, what to do? I snagged the hardcover for $9, fully intending to download a pirated version of the ebook as soon as it is available. But now Amazon is offering the ebook for $9.

So, which is less moral? Buying the hardbook for $9 and downloading a pirated ebook, or downloading a pirated ebook and buying the ebook for $9. I am thinking the second scenario is better, because I would be wasting resources with the first - killing trees for the hardcover, carbon emissions for the truck delivering the book.

I would really be interested in any opinions on what to do. What are you going to do? Is waiting really the right thing to do?

I want to read it on my Kindle so I'll be waiting until December 24. I wouldn't feel right about getting it through other means even knowing that I'm paying for a copy. I have plenty to read while I wait so it's not a huge deal, but I would like to have been able to read it sooner.

That is why I am mad! And that is why I am thinking about downloading the dark version - I feel manipulated. I could understand pricing, or even inavailability, but holding up the release just because he thinks he can make us buy both versions steams me. And the price war has pretty much ensured no one will buy the book from an independent bookstore. If he wants to help the independent bookstore, raise the price he charges and then make a donation. Raising the price would have the added benefit of hurting the big box stores, which he might want if he can't manipulate us to purchase the hardback, with all its environmental issues, from an independent bookseller.
